Pony only about 13.2/14.0How big is pony? Could it be a south American polo pony brand?
I don't recall any UK brands like that.
Have you tried via Google images?
Not had any luck with google imagesPony only about 13.2/14.0
I’ll try google images![]()
What it the registered name of the horse?
I’m sure daughter’s Pony magazine had a Welsh pony with a brand recently so not just a NF thing, Exmoor’s are branded too but I think with a herd number?
When I originally asked about the brand using “New Forest pony brand mark?” as the thread title, other people said it’s often done on the saddle area (I thought it odd too)If it doesn't have the original passport, could it be an import? Seems a bit odd to brand on the body like that.
I would say that was a scar? Looks odd and large for a brand.
Don't think so but I suppose it’s possible. My Criollo has a brand on his shoulder and the scarring looks the sameI wonder if it’s not brand but a scar? It's very large and in a strange place for a brand.
I had a Dartmoor Hill Pony who had a brand which was just the owner's initials, TBH it was quite a crude brand compared to ones like warmblood brands that I was used to.
@MuddyMonster that's interesting as most brands are done in one go rather than separately. My brand has 2 letters and is made together.
Ahhhh, maybe it was done in one! I always assumed it was done in two as the first letter is much clearer than the second![]()
My DHP is branded in the same place. Please no comments about his weight and how skinny he looks but he was less than a week off Dartmoor at this point but it's the photo that shows his brand the best.I wonder if its not brand but a scar? It's very large and in a strange place for a brand.

Here is a brand to show how it is put together. Also remember after it has been heated up (sometimes many) after a while it will start to lose it's form so the brand maybe not be as clear. If the pony wriggles, the brand may also smudge.
I've seen quite a few ponies branded, feral stock reacts more to human contact than to the brand itself.
Pictures of brand and if you zoom in, you can see it in the saddle area.

Surely a DHP can be any size, as they're not regulated & aren't an actual breed?13.2 is too big to be a DHP.
A DHP must be sired by a registered stallion running on the moor. These stallions have to be inspected by the DHP Association for type and size. The dam must also belong to a registered Commoner and be of suitable type to live on the moor. The DHP foal must be born on the moor.Surely a DHP can be any size, as they're not regulated & aren't an actual breed?
