Anyone recommend a dressage camp for the non-dressage rider?

Hi everyone,

Posted this in Tack Room but this is probably the better place for it. I'm not Competing & Training (yet!), but hopefully you guys could help me move in that direction!

Anyway, was wondering if anyone could recommend a good place to go for an intensive dressage camp? Something fun & low key. I’ve not done dressage before but have a lovely horse I would want to take with me – have been thinking it’s about time I started trying to ride her properly & stop showing her up :)

Have seen AM dressage is highly recommended on here but it’s a bit far from me. Also in the Tack Room, someone mentioned Dressage Diva at Somerford if anyone's been? Somewhere NW or thereabouts would be great!

Thanks for your help!

Do BD run something ?

I've done Dressage Diva at Somerford (Active Rider), they are good fun with riders of all levels but very popular and hard to get on to. Paired lessons with good trainers and lots of other unmounted activities to go on. BD do camps, look on the website the BD, again paired lessons and the NW region is huge so you may find their camp is quite far away. I am a total convert to AM now, the training is worth travelling for and no paired lessons, which I never find very useful really.

Sorry to hijack the post. I am struggling to find a date that I can attend their courses. Do you have private lessons or do you go along to the courses?

TBH their courses get offered to existing clients first and the few spaces left get mopped up very quickly. I do courses but I also do overnighters when basically I have a lesson late afternoon and one in the morning but other people stay longer. they encourage to stay and watch other lessons, which are always interesting to watch and I learn loads. Matt also rides and it's a real pleasure to watch. Difference with courses is Adam does lecture type activities + sometimes test rides with a listed judge, or fitness training for the rider etc. You get 3 excellent meals each day and the company is generally very good. If you stay overnight, you will get a good cooked meal in the evening but need to cater for yourself for breakfast and lunch although there's always drinks and bread/toast etc available and usually others staying. both Adam and Matt offer training as does Justine Sole, whom I have regular lessons with. She is transforming my riding and given me a huge confidence boost!

Hi everyone,

Thanks for your suggestions. Somerford is very doable for us otherwise it looks like a trip southwards might happen at some point :)

Thanks very useful information

Bobbis horse Camps at Somerford park are brilliant ! Been to 2 and you can do all 3 disciplines or just flatwork/dressage if you want to. They have a novice and nervous riders section too. They do about 4 camps a year and Bobbi does some similar smaller ones at her home which isnt far from there. Go on Bobbis horse camp website, google it and it will come up . Very friendly and welcoming
