Those strirrips to help you mount. You threaded them through your stirrup.Anyone know where you can buy any?
They are awful in my experience!! I tried one as my boy is 17.1hh. I found I then couldn't swing my other leg over the saddle!! Perhaps I was using it wrong but there's not many ways you can use it!!

I bought some for use after I’d had an operation. I was suspended on the horses side neither being able to get my boot out of the strap or able to swing my leg over the saddle.
I sold them.

There are also some by A-z on Google and e- bay, I'm sure a good hobbyist could easily make one from 2 bits of alloy and a bit of webbing. Personally I agree that letting the stirrup down a few holes is best.

I thought you used them sort of as a ladder? As in, putting right foot into the extended step helped you get up to place left foot toe tips in the ordinary stirrup, from where you swung right leg over the saddle? A bit awkward, and not ideal due to a bit of hanging on the side of the horse being involved, but with a bit of practice, doable.

Don't think so, that would be dangerous to have both feet in stirrups on the side of a horse? I stand to be corrected!

Honestly, I have no idea. I've just seen this type of extra stirrup mentioned on a few threads through the years, and thought this seemed like a good moment to ask about it. As I recall it, I've just presumed that was how people used them, sort of like a ladder used only for a few seconds. Wouldn't be good hanging around on one side with all your weight for too long.

I've probably just seen pictures of primitive log ladders, and thought the extended stirrup reminded me about them, so must be used similar.

A screenshot from a YouTube video in case you haven't seen a primitive log ladder

And a little more fancier version

I'd rather find a make-do mounting block. We have large (probably prehistoric) boulders at the edge of our yard and a convenient one just outside the gate.
In the past, I have used banks, gates or the back of village green seats when needing to get off the prancing Old Loon. Mostly I try not to, these days.
