My dodgy ankle has been playing up lately and so I have had one of those lightbulb moments and come to the conclusion that riding side saddle might be the answer. My right ankle is the weaker one so it should mean I don't put much strain on it.

Anyone do/done it or have any information? Thanks

I have tried it and hated it. I know some people claim it is very comfortable, but I did not enjoy it at all. The other thing to think about is will your horse carry a side saddle and will he/she adapt to the different style?

Only once and hurt like hell, but had only been off my crutches for 1 month, having broken my right hip, so probably shouldn't have been riding at all!!!!!

My friend had a few side saddle lessons on her cob and loved it, but had to stop due to lack of funds. Apparently most horses accept a sidesaddle no problem. Horses which rear shouldn't be ridden sidesaddle as you can't get out the saddle quickly apparently.

We started ss last year and W took to it really well. Had lots of lessons though as much more tricky than I thought, for instance it's your right leg that's doing most of the work keeping you on board.

Best thing to do is contact the side saddle association and find an instructor in your area who could give you a trial lesson, just see how you get on.
