I have had a non specific form of arthritis for years which has crisised and remitted over time but is steadily worsening. Not surprising because I have abused my body almost since the day I got it - I used to run into chairs and tables chasing the cat when I was small enough to follow it under the furniture and later progressed to riding anything I could climb on - never broken anything falling from horses but several falling out of other places - the disease found these sites first and can give me hell - so do take care!
I manage the problem with every drug known to man but limit them at the moment to paracetamol with strong codiene, difenac sodium and methotrexate - the first two can be reduced on good days but once on the last one you have to keep it up and it's not pretty.
I have found hardly any bad relationships between my diet and the disease and eat a wide range without effects except good strong coffee which can sometime set off very painful joints. Cold weather does not effect me at all so long as I wear warm clothes but the heat makes me feet hurt - I am completely fed up with concerned folk asking if being out in the rain is bad for me - Humans are mostly made from water for chissakes!!!
That said, I still work like a coolie outdoors and given the chance could probably ride to hounds as well as I have but the fear of the ground coming up to meet me at speed has overcome the thrill of the chase so my boots have been hung up along with my departed mare's saddle.
