Anyone seen the Parelli Club July DVD?

I just wondered if anyone else got this DVD and what they thought of it? Linda Parelli taking over 2 hours, literally, to lead a horse over some tarpaulin but giving a wonderful (if only to her) commentary about how the horse was flipping between being a right brain introvert to a left brain extravert and then actually assessing Attention Deficit Disorder. Apparently Pat’s even got a horse at home that he’s assessed as bi-polar – ahhh what wonderful labels on horses to stop you looking at yourself. Linda says that although to some people this might be like ‘watching paint dry’ if you are a REAL horseman you will see the great value of the patience she was showing. Patience wasn't having any effect so curiously after an hour and a half and clearly no progress at all she asks for jazzy music to be played. Then I saw the reason for the music. It seems you can get away with really getting tough with your carrot stick and rope if you have the right music. I wonder if British audiences will be as blind to this as American audiences clearly are?
Her actual aim was to trailer load the horse but she couldn’t get him near the trailer in the show but they showed video of her trying to load him that night with no audience present to load the next day. She blamed her awful timing of aids on having to talk to the audience at the same time but genuinely didn’t seem to realise how difficult she makes it for the horse.
First lot of music did not work so more music asked for and he really got some proper smacks next time. He stepped over tarpaulin after two hours. Not consistently but did manage to run over it a couple of times but even before he had done that she started saying you could see how wonderful her programme was and students could come to them for $5000 and how grateful they were. Pause. Then she said but what they’d done is filmed the whole course because they were worried about people that could not afford it (bless) so it was now ‘in a box’ for $1000. Sales technique faultless as paused for dramatic effect …. But she had talked to Pat and they had agreed that on this day ONLY they would reduce the price to $450 and the first 50 people would go into a prize raffle. Is there no limit to this woman’s generosity?

Some woman suggested that ‘people might say that the horse looked exactly the same at the end as he did at the beginning’ and Linda explained that if they weren’t REAL horse people who have studied their ‘Horse-anality’ programme that very well might be what it looked like but if they had they would realise it was very different because he was running around through fear at the beginning whereas now he was running around through excitement. ‘The Kings New Suit of Clothes’ very much came to mind at this moment.

This is just an honest assessment. I guess not many other people will have seen this DVD but if you have I’d be very interested if you saw something helpful in it that I didn’t?

If you want to know about the pack don’t worry I’ll give a review later on in the week. It’s actually worse than I could have possibly imagined although of course everyone must make up their own mind but I appreciate this site for allowing me to assist people to not throw money away or abuse horses without fully realising what they are doing.

Oh thank you for talking so much sense. I am surrounded by people practicing this nonsense at the moment and it does me good to read your views as i can not tell them what i really think!!!
They have been three months getting the horse to walk on blue plastic sheeting and now it canters over it looking very scared they all look very happy and smug. And the point is??????

No not allowed to ride apart from up to the field. A year ago this horse was winning at BSJA! It looks slightly bewildered!!!! Its amazing with umbrellas though so who wants to jump.

This poster has had some detailed replies to her criticisms on the Intelligent Horsemanship forum

MaryG is a regular poster who seems to surface just to criticise Parelli. Maybe MaryG is another trainer who sees Parelli as competition?
MaryG you seem to have a real "thing" about Parelli, you're putting an awful lot of effort into all these negative posts about it. Why don't you share something you enjoy? All that happens when you post threads like this is some people agree with you, some disagree, but you don't change anything so why bother?

It's a bit wierd, but we got a lot of new members when the "what do you think of Parelli" thread was started. They came to support the Parelli side of things and joined around May time. But I'm not sure what that has got to do with MaryG - who hates Parelli and everything they stand for! (Regardless of when she joined H+H).
I'm not keen on Parelli, but I have this tendency to see both sides of arguments.

I was just a tad confused - it was like if you joined at the end of May you weren't allowed an opinion on Parelli. Maybe that was just me reading it wrong. I don't think much of it either, and I don't like the implication made that if you don't blindly follow their methods (and pay up!), then you don't love your horse. But each to their own.....

As Talan said in the What do you think of Parelli post (the 29 pager) suddenly all of these new users came on singing Parelli's praises and they all joined within hours of each other and had never/rarely posted befoere. I am very cynical about those sort of posts and there seems to be SO much about Parelli but its mainly started by new members and it all stinks in my opinion.

We are in the summer holidays and there are lots more kids on here reading the posts and they should be able to get unbiased opinions not weighted ones.

Totally agree with your last sentence, Tricksy. There does seem to be a lot of Parelli posts around and it all gets very heated. I'm always interested to read both sides, though, even though I'm firmly in the "opposed to it" camp!
