Hi all!

Has anyone seen this before - lump around the tendon area?

Near fore - lump is not directly down the back it’s more to the offside, as you can see by the photos taken from the offside!
It is hard (ish), no heat or pain on palpitations.
2/10’s lame circling on surface on left rein only.
Sound on a hard surface when trotted up in a straight line.

History - laceration of the SDFT 50% 10 months ago, underwent surgery to suture SDFT back together, no tendon sheath involvement.
So far rehab has went well, miraculously just completed rehab and this appears when he was brought in from the field.
Vet has been and scanned - nothing untoward found & also liaised with the surgeon from Edinburgh who states is not worried.
Field rest, cold hose, and stable bandage for the next week.

Thoughts anyone ?

My mare had damaged her superficial flexor tendon a year or so previously and suddenly (following turn out on hard ground) had a soft lump that was possible more on the side than yours?

No lameness, not tender and no heat but we did scan as was due to go to camp in two weeks! She was 20yrs old and following the scan it was determined to most likely be scar tissue, she still has a slight swelling there now 7yrs later and a couple of new ones, she is however now fully retired.

Hope yours turns out as well. :)

Edited to add it won't let me add photo of swelling!

She came in from the field with a huge swelling in the same place your horse has and really lame, when it was scanned she had damaged it from the back of the pastern and further up, she had months of box rest and I rehabbed her back into work really slowly but she went lame again quite quickly.

I ended up having an mri done and that's when the vet said he thought it was an old injury so possibly done before we owned her, that's when they said it had a lot of scar tissue around it and that the tendon sheath was also damaged,it didn't ever go back to normal, she was 12 when she first went lame and I retired her at 14 after multiple attempts of rehab.

Because of the scar tissue there was not a lot of options for treatment only steriod and she had cushings and ems so retirement was the only option really, she was totally field sound just didn't stand up to work and unfortunately I lost her to laminitis a year later I was gutted she was such a lovely horse.

Has your vet mentioned mri?

From my own experience with my horse it definitely sounds like scar tissue/adhesions. May break down over time with work. Can show signs of lameness then better again. Hydrotherapy is very good for them to help with this
