Was just wondering if anyone has ever seen a horses feet change in colour?
I have a dark bay mare with black legs and four black feet however a few months ago all four feet started to develop white stripes down them, one foot more than others but all feet are doing it. There is no change in texture/feel to the hoof and its going faster than horn growth but has not yet reached a point where farrier touches it. Nor has there been any damage to the coronet.
I have had my farrier and another farrier look at them but neither have ever seen this before!

So does anyone know what could be causing this?

Thanks in advance :)

The water line marks the end of the pigmented hoof - by half way through the hoof they are all this colour - so don't worry.

Have you change feeding lately? it may be just changes in the horse's pigmentation, it may be induced by shortage of minerals...if she's not footy then don't worry.

Phosphate and magnesium shortages in people can cause white spots in the nail - so why not in horses?

i have seen something similar in an arab but he has pinking syndrome. he grew a white stripe down one front hoof only. however he also has pinking around his muzzle and eyes

Vitiligo perhaps - it causes longitudinal striations in the fingernails of humans.

Eta - and also occursin horses. A forum member hasa horse with this around his eye - might be called Ron? Hes a very handsome horse anyway.

Thanks for replies!

I havent change feed lately but moved yards beginning Sept and this has been happening since then, so maybe its something (or lack of) in the grazing??
