Anyone seen this clip before??

A not finished one ...

certainly doesn't do the horse any favours! and no excusing a crap clip, as you can always dope to clip and do a decent job which lends to the conformation.

What's wrong with it? It's keeping it's bottom warm which will help warm up muscles in this cold weather! You probably find that the owner actually clips for the reason that clipping is there for - to help cool the horse off - but why do we need to strip it all off?

Yeah seen it on racehorses too - guess the theory is it is removing the hair off the parts that sweat the most and leaving the rest on.

I don't take DA's bum off as he ties up. So long as it's keeping the bits that need to be cool, cool then it's doing the job.

Absolutely - Loads of people on here lately just pulling everything and everyone to bits. Not nice.

I'd be concerned that the horse was bad to clip, personally. You could also easily make that look a lot more flattering by taking a diagonal line down towards the flank/stifle rather than a square chunk.

That's presuming an awful lot from a photo! I've done that clip on our racers when it suited, why take the butt off if not needed, other than for vanity? Or because grooming is too much effort....
Besides which, this horse is only just four and was possibly only clipped for the first time, great horse sense in my book to not push it and leave a positive memory.
Stuff flattering, I try to take hair off as necessary and keep the horses healthy. I also have one that is poor to clip, but is fully shaven. So maybe horses that need to be doped have full clips to make the doping worthwhile.......perhaps!

Colleen my pony has the same clip as your horse - I think it is an excellent clip for a horse in medium work - the bits that sweat up
are removed but leaving the back bits on so they can turn their haunches to the wind if out and keep warm.

My pony is clipped in a way that is practical for the amount of work and life style he has rather than for the way it looks! He does not sweat up on his haunches or back half but does sweat alot on his neck and front half.

How about this one

That's exactly what Lace has, but her diagonal line goes slightly further back. I think it works really well, takes of hair where she would get sweaty and leaves cover where she doesn't. It also means you don't have to rug them up so much that they can't move!!
My friend's horse is clipped like this too and I've seen quite a few of these clips at competitions.

Is Colleen's clip not a chaser clip? used to have something similar done to one of mine, just a bit more sweeping over the shoulder, it worked well!

There are many different chaser clips. The one I used to do on my little pony started from the top of his face down a diagonal line, not behind the wither.
I just realised that the description is awful and makes no sense

its basically a really high chaser, most commonly used for steeplechasers hence the name. It keeps the all important back end muscles warm. I used to use this clip on my old hunting pony as she seemed to sweat mainly on her front end but not behind. I also thinks it looks v smart but thats not the reason i always did it on her every season. I v much think you need to clip off what the horse needs not what you think looks the smartest. I think a lot of people who fully clip out their horses when the horses isn't in a lot of work is silly really! I think the clip they have done in the pic isnt all that bad,and have to agree that you cant judge the whole thing from one pic,the horse could be v good to clip and that maybe it simply just doesnt need its back end doing

Nope not a chaser clip ..... What started out as a trace clip ended up between a trace clip and a blanket clip .

The chaser clip still has hair on the neck .

sorry to add i didnt use the same clip in that pic!! Mine was v smart, it went from back of ears diagonally down to the sheath area. It was much lower than that and finished off nicely!
