So I'm just enjoying some vicarious monday evening luhmuhlen action with Ingrid Klimke's brilliant head cam video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4nZ_a1okG0Q I'm on the edge of my seat! Love the little happy ears.

Anyway I was just wondering if anyone can make sense of what she's saying? She does this really strange rrrrrrrr trill sound which I think has the meaning of a 'steeeadyyyy' but I've never heard it before. Is it a German thing??

Wow! I speak a bit but apart from "Super" I couldn't really catch her words. The trilling is just a "Steady" noise of her own, I think. But wow, I was blown away by the headcam vid...from one who doesn't leave the ground on horseback by choice, those were some jumps! And so many of them! Fantastic to see them from the rider's perspective.

Lots of "super " and super horse "lots of BRRRRing and a "lets go!".Fantastic ride!I loved watching such a sympathetic rider on such a good horse!Oh ,and the Brrr thing, my old guvnor used to do the same thing with his racehorses.Since he was one of the best trainers in the business ,I am sure there was a reason.

Interesting how she says 'super horse' and not pferd.....and then other bits in German! Nice to watch.....so much is missed out on tv!

Isn't Ingride Klimke who always looks like she's going too fast?

"BRRR" was also used in Scandinavia when I lived over there, it was used as a vocal encouragement for the horse to slow down. I learned to ride abroad so was very used to using "brr" when I came back to the UK - had a nasty surprise in the beginning as it seems to be used to get horses to go faster in this country!!

She doesn't say "super horse" she says "super maus" which is the German name for mouse and probably a pet name or stable name for the horse. And yes that brrrrrrrrr is a bit like clicking your tongue we tent to do similar in dutch to get a horse going.

My German isnt wonderful. But I thought she was steadying the horse into a jump or jumps in combination with Brrrrr and once over the jump, if there was a stretch of fast going ahead saying Fahr to signal to the horse that it could now go fast again. May be I am wrong but I thought these were verbal cues and that the horse turned its ears to listen and it understood them.
All in my imagination may be. I know nothing - and the verb fahren is used in German for driving horse and cars so I am not sure.

It's definitely 'super maus' so i'd agree with Kikke that Maus is probably his pet name (doesn't he have lovely ears? I love the black fringe on them). I think the trilling is actually a 'pay attention' type thing - she always uses it just before jumps and there's a couple of different tones which seem to be used according to fence type. I think I also heard 'schnelle' which means faster and possibly 'raus' at the start which kind of means go.

Thanks for your interpretations everyone!
I love the urgent trill she does, it's like "**** **** **** slow down slow down enormous jump approaching!" except so much cooler. I would take it up myself if I could only make that noise... haha
And armchair rider, aren't the ears adorable!
