My wb x mare has summer coat come thru everywhere except saddle patch, bum & belly!! (She had full clip, leaving legs & saddle patch) Is this down to the weird weather?! My tb & cleveland bay both have full summer coats. Surely middle june is abit late to be keeping the winter woolies?!

In the right light mine had a very faint leg line on her hinds still, even though her hinds looked as though they were summer coat, up until last night. That said, I've been away so not had the same type of extensive grooming I do myself for two weeks.

My little shetland is still looking really patchy- I can see a gorgeous summer coat under there somewhere, but he's still moulting like there's no tomorrow. My other 2 horses are fully in their summer coats now though. I guess the weather is confusing some of them!

Yep my gelding is still holding onto his, he only has a bit of summer coat on his bottom the rest is still long hair (not as thick as a winter coat but still not summer coat!)

My tb x welsh mare still has winter woolies behind her saddle area, you can still plainly see her clip too

My yearling still has some fluff as does my Shetland, in fact the only de-fluffed animals are black pony & her foal who was born with summer jams!

One of my spanish girls is exactly the same, with fluff all over her back, flanks and belly, but gloriously short and silky summer hair over the rest of her - looks like a split personality horsey

Yes, my welsh D type mare still has her trace clip and everyone has been commenting on it. She's over 20 so this may have something to do with it, but has been losing it later each year.

Nope, but my Shetland has Cushings.
He lost the long coat, but with hit weather, we clipped him out. He looks fab, and was much more comfortable, but he does get rugged when its wet and cold, and he even had to where his Masta thermatex type rug last week because he was shivering and cold - he has a large wardrobe to cover every eventuality.
And before I get jumped on, like I say he has Cushings, is 26yrs old and is stabled at night all year round so is a proper softy

legal dancer...just a thought, have you had yours for cushings, mine was diagnosed last year and she was 21 in march this year so same sort of age. sometimes cushings is only found when the horse gets laminitis so may be worth checking before this happens....

yup, me sec d is 7 and was clipped in jan, she is black but clipped goes a washed out browny colour. she STILL has some of those browny patches where the hair hasn't come out. With a shedding blade, the browny stuff comes away and leaves black underneath but its still a tad reluctant in places!

I never knew cushings was lammi related :( My mare is 13 this yr & had low grade lammi 4 yrs ago, under control & not suffered since but does this mean she is more prone to cushings? Can you get tested in advance?

One of ours was still in his winter woolies but I eventually did clip it off during that really hot week we had as he was so miserable! First time I've ever clipped that late but couldn't leave him like he was in that heat. Others are in summer clothing ;)
