Anyone struggling to sell a horse , and swapped instead ???

a friend has been struggling to sell her horse for a couple of months now and in the recession whether horses still are or arent selling she has been offered a swap instead , I have advised her to be wary as she may end up with something that seems ideal yet isnt , and she may not have any comeback .

Anyone have successful positive stories ????

or bad stories ???

Could work out - depends on who's she's doing the swap with - is it a dealer or private seller?

What is she swapping, and why and what's being offered as a swap? Is it a straight swap or does she also have to put some monies towards it as well?

Worth looking at I guess, she won't be committed if she doesn't like the one being offered?

I have heard of this working for someone, but haven't personally done this.

It rather depends how desperately she needs to find somewhere for her own horse, it could work out.

She would need to get a receipt (and passport) for the swap and it could be easier to pay a minimal amount, say a pound, just to have some sort of paperwork. I've been bitten like that before, straight swap, foolishly no receipt, and then the people said that they'd only loaned the swap pony to me, that got quite nasty in the end.

I do swap, rather too much, I've had some duds with issues, and some that have been totally genuine swaps, but I do only tend to do this with ponies. I have also swapped ponies for hay and for fencing.

Apart from this morning where for some reason I seem to have swapped two barn kittens for a mini donkey. I'm still working on a viable excuse, it could have been worse, she did want to give me an 18h Belgian Draft!

My friend is trying to sell her youngster at the mo and having not much luck, she has decided that she can go out on loan now with a view to buy, hopefully that will attract more potential new owners
