Anyone think that green-beige breeches will catch on here?

I'm orginally from Canada and rode hunter there. The color breech to wear (then and now) is green/beige (often referred to as "puke green"

) or light khaki when showing (lot of people wear that color for normal casual or lesson riding too) with the side zips.
When I moved over here 8 years ago, I was surprised to see that NO ONE wore that color here and that canary or bright beiges were the colour jod or breech to show in and on top of that, I NEVER see side zips for sale here.
LOL, although I've fully embraced British life here (my mum and my family are originally from here anyways), I can't get used to not wearing side zip green-beige breeches and have to order them from Neddys in the US (I have discount coupons if anyone wants the code!) as nowhere here sells them.
I find they are a flattering color (LOL, for my figure anyways!!) especially with the zip on the side as it doesn't make your belly look round so I just wondered why they don't seem to have caught on here?

umm, sounds a bit revolting, tbh... have you got a pic of the colour, i am thinking bile colour, hope i'm wrong! strange what you can get used to...

i hope that caramel coloured jodhs will eventually be acceptable for comps, so much more flattering and practical. unless you're very slim, white or cream is never going to be flattering.

If it is more flatterung on bigger legs than bloody cream or white then yes,lol!!!I just so wish we were allowed to compete in black joddies,far more flattering i find,especially at my age and ya paranoid about ya fat thighs anyway,lol!!!
 
To be fair, no one in North America shows dressage or even eventing in what we lovingly refer to as "puke" breeches

- it's very much a hunter jumper thing. Even lots of hunter people have moved on to a more beige-ish tone to go with brown or grey jackets. Show hunters are VERY fashion conscious!! There is a new "in" shirt/belt/jacket/hat/pad/saddle/bridle/boot (horse and person) etc etc every season. And everyone just has to have Tailored Sportsmans. I will say the green breeches have hung in there, though! Everyone keep prophesising the return of rust breeches but no go yet.

Some of this creeps into the other disciplines - especially belts, saddle pads and other "non-essentials" and I guess you wouldn't get chucked out of the lowest dressage shows for dressing like a hunter rider but I wouldn't recommend it above that level! But then again almost no one shows dressage or eventing in anything other than white, aside from a few brave souls (me:)) in light beige.

That said, I looooove my Miller green side zips. Most comfortable breeches ever. I might just have to wear them showjumping and plead ignorance to polite norms here.

What are the straps (garter straps) they wear around their calves - I've often wondered, they look deliberately 'old-fashioned'......?
 
Yup, forgot to mention that it's a hunter/jumper thing. The area I used to ride, was predominantely H/J as was my barn (I'm from Montreal). LOL, eventing and dressage are a different world unto themselves!

I just found it funny that they haven't become popular here yet with at least some of the hunt seat and jumper riders.

Cruiser, I know what you mean about the rust breeches! I LOVE them! I used to have a Miller's pair in the late 80's- early 90's, so kind to the figure they were.

I have the Miller's green ones you mention as well. Bought them in Montreal this summer when we went back to visit my family. Had to go to my old favorite tack shop and buy something so I indulged in a pair.

My husband took this silly photo of me in my "puke green" side zips when I got in from an evening hack last summer (on one of the rare days it wasn't raining!).
I have biggish upper thighs so I think(?) they look ok on me (LOL, please be kind people!:) Ignore my Felix the Cat top too!)

The garters are what the pony hunter riders wear. That's another thing I realized that you don't see on kids here as well. They are meant to keep your jods from riding up, keep them smooth on your leg. It's mostly only little kids that wear them though, not teenagers.
 
I think they look nice with a tweed jacket, not with navy tho. I have to say I HATE those tieless shirts with a standup collar, they make people look like 'Sindy in her riding outfit' dolls!!
 
First pair of breeches I ever owned where pass me downs in the early seventies, so I imagine they were at least 10 years old when I got them. They were side zipped, heavy material and an odd shade of beige, much darker than todays jods.

I think the breeches in Canada are based on what was worn in Britain in the 50 & 60's could be wrong but seems like what worn a very long time ago..

They are quite similar but without the flared hips though. It's the similar sort of Helenca material (but with a bit of lycra added for stretch) and they have a garter seam running at the back of the calves like vintage breeches too.
