Am looking at a small economical 4x4 to tow with and this one is coming out efficient to run. 2.0 diesel 4WD with 2tonne towing capacity. I will be towing one horse in a 505. Am based in Ireland so our laws are different in that it is the weight you are actually towing not what the trailer is plated to tow, that they look at.

So I know I am legally OK but does anyone have one and can give me an idea of how it holds up to towing on motorways, up hills, and in fields?

TIA :)

You certain about the Irish/Erie laws on towing ? = http://www.irishtimes.com/life-and-style/motors/ireland-s-confusing-towing-rules-explained-1.2633473

I thought it was odd when you said that as it is an EU country so must follow EU laws

Sorry not for licence - I have BE - I meant for the car's towing capacity :) I wouldn't need to downplate my trailer as long as what I am towing is not over the car's capacity.

Of course, before you attach a hitch to a Ford Ka it’s worth noting the towing vehicle must be certified to tow the weight of the trailer and load.

You would not have to anyway if the plated weight was over the max tow capacity

I've got one. Personally I wouldn't tow a loaded trailer in it - doesn't feel substantial enough.

That is just my view though and I hate towing in anything so a bit biased!!

Thanks! Do you have the 1.7 or 2.0? The one I am looking at is the 2.0 4WD which is rated to tow 2tonne. Kerbweight is approx 1600kg so I thought hopefully it would have been ok.

My towing is mostly motorway driving with a big hill going up to our yard that needs gusto for it!
