Someone decided that they didnt like the look of our freelander a week befor xmas so thats been writen off and we are looking for another vehicle to replace it now. We dont have a lot of money to buy another one but we want to do some research.

So anyone have a Hyundai Santa Fe? or can recomend something similar?

We had a Vaxuhall Frontea before the freelander which we loved but it sent most of its time in the garage being fixed.

I have a Sante Fe which I tow with, with no problems whatsoever. It doesn't though tow a horse trailer, it tows my mobile catering trailer which to be honest, is probably a lot heavier than the horse trailer by the time I have everything stacked in it.

My Sante Fe is an automatic as well. It's just had a full service and I made the garage aware of how much towing I was doing with it, and thankfully no problems save for the usual filters etc. being replaced as done with any service.

I searched for a long time for a vehicle which would take the weight I needed to tow with, and Hyandai was recommended by a lot of people. My neighbours who do have a horse trailer also have the same vehicle (an older one) and again, no problems whatsoever. In fact, down my actual road, there are about 6 Hyandai Sante Fe (which can be a bit confusing when two of us park close to each other at the supermarket and try to get into each others cars - being the same colour!).

We tow with the Santa Fe manual 2l diesel, had it 4 years now. IW 505 with one 16hh TBx, and we get up and down the Cornish hills and lanes fine, and don't cause (too much) of a problem on the faster roads for other road users!
Did skid a bit today trying to get in and out the mudbath of a paddock where trailer lives though. It has to be an "everyday" car too, and it does both jobs perfectly well for our needs without breaking the bank - we'd get another one.

my friend has one for towing, hers is fab, they are one of the top 3 cars to tow with, them being a nissan x trial, a santa fe and a kia sportage.

I think you mean the Kia Sorrento not the Sportage

Back to the original post. I tow with a Santa Fe - the new model not the old model. It's not got a massive towing weight (2200kg) but at the moment I only tow a 403 and one horse and it barely notices it's there - I have to watch my speed creeping up on the motorways. I believe the old model has a lower towing limit so just watch your weights but if you had a Freelander before you'll be aware of that already.
