Hello, just wondered if anyone has tried this. It claims to have many effects, including a calming effect. I was told it helps the adrenaline reaction of the horse, spooking etc. My horse can be very tizzy at the best of times, but has started more of the spooking violently then bucking/broncking, which is not pleasant, so need something to chill him whilst hacking. Does anyone have any opinions or experiences of this product?
Thanks! My confidence is wobbling!

I was asking a similar question last week about these kind of calmers as my mare seriously likes to party when we're competing (she's only a baby-so has an excuse) and i needed something to take the edge off this and keep her focused...i tried Carl Hester's calming paste and apart from the fact that it stinks (and she wouldn't swallow it for ages) it worked brilliantly. No bucking, turning herself inside out etc -just calm and focused but still with plenty of spark and not switched off-she was fab and we actually won our test! I think they do a granual supplement that can be given everyday as although it said you can use the paste daily it was £11.50 so would be fairly expensive! anyway hope this helps but good luck with whatever you use!

Hum, i think horses react differently to different things, what works for one won't for another. Trial and error i suppose, but expensive! Have tried different calmers, but have tried to do without, but he could become dangerous, and don't want to fall off and hurt myself.

Your right: different things seem to work on different horses. I suspect it depends on what the 'problem' is eg a deficiency.

It sounds like you could do with everyday supplement, rather than a one off. Things like Oxyshot (and most other calmers that come in a syringe or small sachet) or designed for one-offs like competitions. They are generally short acting (a couple of hours) and horribly expensive!

I think for your horse I'd try a daily feed supplement type calmer. I'd go for a magnesium calmer (as a magnesium definciency causes excitability and spookyness and is common) and a herbal 'sedative' type together. They approach the problem from different angles.

NAFF Magic is probably the best and most easily avalible magnesium calmer.

For a herbal supplement, I've used Global SuperCalm to great effect. There are plenty of others though - nupafeed is meant to be good, as is Equine America's Kalmer

I tried it with my boy and it made no difference whatsoever but a friend uses it regularly on her little pony and it apparently works wonders but I'm really not sure about the stuff.
I've used Equine America Magnitude which works on my sharp baby but I think the effects are lessening each day so back to the drawing board!
