Anyone tried thick EVA stable mats rather than rubber ones?

I have thick EVA ones and never again - they are too light, move around a lot and get bedding underneath them so have to be removed and cleaned out under at least once a week, often more. The only way they "work" is by sticking them down to the floor. We used industrial adhesive. This stops them moving around, and we glued edges together to stop bedding getting down underneath. Its working at the moment, but I am saving up for some more expensive but heavier mats to replace them eventually.

Light mats might be easier on the back, but are not horse-friendly IMO.

I have 34mm EVA mats and they dont move at all, and one of my horses is a serious roller, paws the ground in front of his door after being in 5 mins and is generally a thug.

I fitted them myself (cut them with a hand saw and then trimmed edge with a kitchen knife) and I lift them once a year to clean - they dry in about an hour and fit back perfectly.

I dont think they would work in a lorry though.

I have them too. My dad fitted them for me, as CBAnglo says cut them with a hand saw then trimmed with a knife. We were advised to leave a 10mm gap around the edges for the mats to spread, but we chose not to and fitted them tight to the walls. They haven't spread, and they haven't moved either. I'm really pleased with them. Can't see them working in a lorry though.

What type of floor are they laid on? Mine have been moved from different stables floors and sizes and never had a problem. They have been fine with a shetland and TB sharing, a 17.2hh and my welsh x. Some bedding does get in between the mats but it's not really a problem. Do they have a grippy surface underneath or on top? Are they snugly fitted wall to wall?

I have the stablelite mats - on my third set (just done Stinky's stable). The originals were bought in 1996 and are still fine and in a field shelter. The ones I bought 9 years ago for Cairo and now Farra - no wear and tear and that is with a clydesdale on them.

They have never moved - they are 1 m x 1 m and 45 cm thick - are very heavy to move. I fitted them like carpet tiles using a heavy duty jigsaw to cut.

You can if you wish use minimal bedding as they are porous. I take mine up every other day as I do use a very absorbant bedding so not too much pee goes through. Soft and warm, great for old horses with ringbone.

Stablelite are not the cheapest, but for me there is nothing else I want to use and in the long run they have lasted so well that the bit extra cash has been worth it.

Equimats are EVA (and were the ones I was looking at)

I decided to buy a standard 6 x 4ft 17mm rubber mat. I will put that over my 10mm rubber mats in the lorry and he can paw his way through that!

Thanks to all who replied

We've got the EVA mats that click together like a jigsaw. Love 'em. Never move and are so light and easy to pick up and move when they need a clean.

Equimats are superb and never move. I've moved yards 3 times and moved them each time and never had a problem. They are not "feather" light though - just lighter than the solid rubber ones.
