One of my shelties whose coat changed dramatically when he was castrated has horrid grey fluffy undercoat type fur which is only normally removed after 2-3 hours [ he's a big sheltie ] with a Kingcomb , he looks fab after all the hardwork , but the wispy stuff is soon back .
Does anyone use a furminator on their dogs ? i have one for the pony which works great but as they are quite pricey i would like some feedback on how good they are .

I use the furminator on my husky and he's never looked any better! He pretty much sheds year round(the gray fluffy undercoat). I just got it in December and I can honestly tell you its been the best brush I have had for him. In the matter of only 5-10 mins I had gotten more hair off of him than I got off of him in 20 mins with the other brush I had used. I have to use it almost daily, but for way shorter periods of time than with anything else. In my opinion, it was worth the money.

Another vote for the furminator. Bonnie lab moults most of the year and this tool stops it ending up in tumbleweed everywhere,

Yes - all husky's are furminated twice yearly. Job done in a few minutes. Even better when you have two furminators and a roped into the equation other half to do one side. Most of ours hate being brushed, they don't appear to hate the furminator any more or less than any other brush / comb.

They are also fantastic on the Horse. Winter coat out in a couple of sessions and he coudn't care less.

I'm possibly the only person on HHO that doesn't think that highly of them. Yes they have their uses, but to be honest, I only use them for a bit of carding (ie pulling out some of the excess coat when handstripping a terrier). I sometimes use them on h/s gun dogs - but rarely ever on something like a husky or sheltie. I just don't find them nearly effective enough - however I DO have much better tools at my disposal in my salon so that could be why.
