I have always wanted to get my lad a copper mouthed bit, as he never salivates when I'm schooling, and I have heard a few good things about the Neue Schule ones. He is currently in a 14mm french link loose ring as he can get a bit heavy in front (hes a cob). He is relatively well schooled, but can just fix his neck and his jaw sometimes and I wondered if a NS would help.

Any words of advice, as I don't know a great deal about bits...Ive been very lucky that hes only ever had two (his baby hollowmouth eggbutt and his french link). Was thinking about the 14mm NS trans lozenge?? and if that worked I would get him the smaller ringed version for his double bridle.

Thanks in advance

I have this, it doesn't encourage salivation at all, but is a lovely comfy bit and warms to the same temp as horses mouth immediately.

you can ring up NS (details from their website) and they are more than happy to discuss any situation and suitable bits for you and your horse :)

I've had my mare in a KK french link loose ring snaffle for about 5 years, we do dressage. I have recently started to jump her and she has got very strong and is leaning so wanted to try another bit. I hired a NS bit from the bit shop http://www.thehorsebitshop.co.uk/ and she went so well in it that I bought it. She really salivates in the NS too.

I have used the universal and the elevator and have been very impressed with the bits, I feel like I have control but they never seem to back off the bit so thumbs up from me

I have had various kinds over the last few years and all the horses have gone well in them , if you are unsure which one they are very helpful if you phone them

I'm borrowing one at the moment as mine didn't fit Rhythm, and the wrong one was sent to me when I ordered one so I'm waiting for a replacement

Highly recommend one! I have one pony in the team up and one in the verbinand, and both seem to love them.

I would suggest phoning them. They are friendly, helpful and know their own stock well.

Yes I have the Universal with lozenge which I use at times that might get exciting he is quite comfy in it as the mouthpiece is very much like the KK training which he wears normally.
My double bits are NS as well, the Bradoon is the Tranz lozenge and the Curb a Mors l'Hotte with a short shank .

He's a Connemara with a very wide mouth 6" and the beauty of the NS curb is that you can choose the length of the shank so I don't have to have something which makes him look like a Tennesee Walker :D .

I don't know that he salivates any more in the NS than the KK Sprenger.

I only know the 'Team Up' one, but am very happy with it. It's recommendable for sensitives mouths because the pressure on the tongue is minimal compared to others. The bits have a good reputation here and the company offer fitting advice online and tutorials -albeit in German.

This is a zombie thread. 12 years old. NS has changed quite a bit as a company in that time with its range!
I should hope so - they were not at all interested when a fairly new one I bought broke in half. A friend of mine was riding my fit hunter at the time and it nearly caused an awful accident. They didn't seem interested in what had happened, didn't recall. I got a refund and new (inferior) set of reins as I'd had to use the reins through his mouth to lead him home as he was agitated at what had happened. They did later stop doing the ball and socket design, as I understand mine wasn't the only one, but no duty of care to those who'd already bought one.

I prefer Sprenger.

I have a few now and they have gone down well with my gang.
Ace is in a Turtle Top for everything except showing - loose ring for flatwork, universal for fun stuff.
Alf had a tranz angled bradoon and slimma weymouth for his double (his snaffle was a myler).
I would definitely recommend speaking to one of the bit shops for mouthpiece recommendations!

I used to ride my Dutch WB in one, she had a fleshly mouth and large tongue, typical in that breed and the EDT recommended a narrower mouthpiece. We went with the trans angled lozenge pelham in the end. Amazing the difference.
