Hi. I have just purchased a thin gel pad made by acavallo to help stop my saddle slipping on my round cob. Should I use it directly on my horses back? Do I still use a thin numnah as well and would it work if I put it on top of the numnah?

Sorry for the stupid questions but if I just use the gel pad and saddle I think my saddle will get very dirty, but if that's how it should be used then I'll just have to clean it!

I have one, it can be used next to the skin with a thin numnah on top to keep your saddle clean. The warmth from your horses back helps the stickability of the pad which helps to keep the saddle from slipping.
If you are just using it for gel protection, then it'll be fine put between the numnah and saddle instead.

I have one of these for the same reasons as you. I put it straight on her back under a numnah and it does stop the saddle slipping round.

I have one its fab. You can also buy attachments if the saddle stops fitting to raise the back or front. I use it straight on my mare's back for DR and SJ but in between the numnah and saddle for xc (to stop numnah slipping) as I find if they sweat a lot on them it will slip out. think my ISH mare would be okay but it slipped with my TB because of that lovely white foam sweat they can produce so easily! so I dont risk it XC.

Hi. A little update, I used the gel pad today on her back and under a thin numnah. We went for a long hack and the saddle felt really secure, I dropped my whip and had to get off to pick it up. I got back on from the ground and the saddle didn't move at all. Wish I'd bought one ages ago!

Good to hear, thanks :) I've just discovered their seat savers and am saving hard for one of their "Gel out" ones on the basis that it will help my bum stick in the saddle too!
