-Are they worth the money?
-Do they actually stay on and are they hardwearing, as mine is a serial mask wrecker

?
- Do you find it rubs or is uncomfy anywhere?
-Where is the best place to buy one (pref online?!) I have tried ebay with no luck? I am looking at approx £60 for headcollar and mask by the sounds of it!!

Any other comments or opinions of greenguard masks would be much appreciated

I am thinking of 'treating' my horse to a greenguard as he is muzzled at least 6-7 months of the year as he is a laminetic.
He currently wears a shires muzzle but it rubs his face and causes bald patches, not good when we show but I dont want to waste £60 if it is going to break or be taken off

No the are EVIL!!!

if your horse has even half a brain cell (my old mare did just about) they will figure out that if they put the guard flat to the floor and slide their mouth into the corner 'opening' (where the two bits fold up but dont meet) that they can eat almost normally through there. In the process they will create a massive hole under their chin!

Used it for three days and the damage was ridiculous. The better masks are the soft ones that cover the whole nose with a hole in the bottom, correctly adjusted should not rub too much but bald patchs and better than massive holes and chunkcs of flesh removed!!

Thanks featherpower for this!

My horse is pretty intelligent, he manages to get his shires one off regulally. Maybe i need some suggestions to stop it rubbing rather than wasting money on a greenguard?

The one he has is the soft type and is correctly adjusted although it has to be tight ish or he gets it off, hence the rubs! He can also eat pretty normally through the bottom.

Ive used a GG Muzzle & the headcollar on my greedy IDxTB for just over 6 months this year.
The only rub that occured was on his chin & was easily sorted by glueing some sheepskin onto the area.

The Muzzle & headcollar fit the horse really well so ive had no other problems not bad really considering he's worn it every day. It did restrict his grazing without a doubt.

Ive been really pleased with it, i would buy another.

I tired the bucket type masks previous & horse just wouldnt eat no matter what.

Have used both on my TB x Welsh who had very serious laminitis a couple of years ago so HAS to have his grazing restricted.

The only one that works for him is the Greenguard with the headcollar although I guess you could easily just attach a strap to the headpiece of your existing headcollar that runs down the front of the face and attaches so the noseband of the headcollar.

I tried a number of different webbing bucket type muzzles including Shires but they all rubbed him badly and he very quickly learned to rub them off on any tree/fence post/companion/etc.

With all muzzzles though they don't work with very short grass .

Absolute rubbish ! although they have changed the design after I complained and had my money returned in full. The part that goes over the horses mouth is now bigger than it used to be but I still wouldn't touch them with a barge pole.

I only by chance noticed that my horse had totally out foxed this idea, I called him to see if it was still on, he was like yeh look mum still on, then he'd put his head down, slip his nose out of the side as someone else said above and munch til his heart was content, I noticed this AFTER he'd had it on for a week so can only thank the lord that he didn't come down with laminitis again, it was in october so hopefully it was because the grass wasn't too rich.

My gripe is that they should recall a product like that if it doesn't work, people are/were using them thinking they were restricting grazing and weren't and could result in serious illness or even death
