Anyone use horsey products on themselves?

i use hypocare i lot clears cold sores up in about half the time, have even sprayed down my throat (its safe checked first) when it was sore, gone in no time !
When i was younger mum always used cowboy magic on my long hair :)
when riding in the summer a use nettex advance fly spray to keep horseflys from biting (patch test 1st):)

If I forget my half chaps, a neat stable bandage does just the same job (I'm hopeless and can't keep my lower leg in check without something)

I've also heard of people using red-cell for hangovers along with bute - but not tried it myself.

Human use of bute is really quite dangerous - it can cause severe adverse effects such as suppression of white blood cell production and aplastic anemia.

Best one was going to A&E with a broken foot held together with vet wrap! Dr just looked at me, sighed, and said 'you're a horsey one, aren't you?'

PMSL! I was tempted to get the vet wrap out the other day when I had my accident! I gamgeed and vet wrapped a mate's cut finger the other day.

I've tried Danilon, numbed my tongue, horrible feeling and tastes awful. I used Wondergel on a cut, great stuff! I put fly spray on myself if I can see mozzies on the yard.

Tons of great stuff in my lotions and potions box!

Doctors prescribe bute to people with nasty arthritis - I agree self administration probably isn't ideal but everything is dangerous to some extent.

And we've all been eating it for years in burgers and it doesn't appear to have been that bad for us.

Agree wIth the Camrosa on cuts etc post - great stuff for horses and people.

Also .... Been using a spray of diluted (1:4) Megatek to encourage regrowth of my boy's mane. Works on the mane brilliantly but also giving my normally terrible nails a spray and now have lovely long nails instead of the chewed and worn stumps I'm usually seen with.

Ice stuff for leg and ankle injuries, hibiscrub for cuts and grazes, vet wrap for strapping injured ankle and wrist, all on purpose. Accidentally wormer, when the horse spat it out straight at me.

Had no idea people ate likits. Can see why bute is used, but why not take ibuprofen? :) Strapping makes sense.

I'd want to look in the ingredients of likits before I took that step!! (Can't get the image/smell of the garlic flavoured ones out of my head...probably making the thought worse!)

Ha ha! My mum accidentally wormed herself after we did the horses, she has some spat on her hand, forgot about it and then she tried to eat a bit of apple :D Apparently it tastes horrible :p

Me and my best friend has eaten likits!! The apple and mint ones are the best!!! Also tried mix but only liked bits of it. Never try speedy beet! It's revolting!!

We'd been at a show and pony pilot hurt her hand. I stuck some purple spray on it and wrapped it with vet wrap and she was fine and completed her classes :) Until later, after we got home when she complained it was REALLY hurting, so husband took her to A&E.

They unwrapped her hand to find it completely purple, and hubby got a royal rollocking off the nurse for being so irrisponsibl - hadn't he heard of savlon? :D

I have a 200g Derby House turnout rug that I've commandeered from my horse and now use on the floor of my tent to insulate it. It does an amazing job, makes the tent lovely and cozy, and my horse is never getting it back. It permanently lives with the camping gear.

I couldnt find my hairbrush in the car the other day so used one of those hoofpicks with brush attachment (it was clean), awesome and my hair looked fab all day

Have rolls of vetrap at home for emergencies, and constantly use wounds cream and purple spray on my clumsy self.

Have also been on my way to a night out, realised I forgot my belt...So I stopped in at the yard, grabbed one of the ponies stirrup leathers and BINGO! :D

Can't believe people have used bute - so so dangerous, especially with the doses mentioned (half a sachet!). There's a good reason it isn't allowed into the food chain!

Ha ha! I was gonna ask if anyone had tried mane and tail conditioner as I'm often tempted with my stupidly fine hair always looking like small mammals are nesting in it .... I now know not to try it! :D

I use Canter mane and tail on my hair, its great stuff, ( used to use Citre-shine, shine mist, but as I cant get it anymore, than canter has to do)

I use the poop scoop, for getting the dog poop up..

And have used Pettifirs? green gel/oil on cuts before..

I might be the only freak that does this but I was looking for a cream today and came across compagel and read that it is good for tendonitis which I have almost always due to a deformity when I was born and it actually really helped!! Normally it's horses using human products! Anyone got any other uses for horsey products?

My Dad has a reocurring leg ulcer. He's had it years now. The hopital have put him on all sorts of antibiotics, creams, dressings, manuka honey, to mentino but a few.

I said he should try dermagel as he could leave the ulcer uncovered, it would heal at its own place (from inside outwards) ,etc, etc. After reading all the good positive things about it on the internet I thought it would be ideal to use. But just in case I sent Dermagel an email to double check, a) it was suitable for a leg ulcer and b) suitable to use the horse dermagel on human as the human dermagel is in identical packaging.

They emailed back within minutes (this was on a saturday morning!!) to say no do not proceed!

So the moral of the story is that you have to be careful with certain lotions and potions.

I know a neighbour who uses hibiscrub on himself, and asked me to source some out. He used it when he showered on doctors advice (didn't like to ask him what for). He came over with a couple of half used bottles the other day wondered if I wanted them as his 'condition' had cleared up. Happy days as its so expensive!

:D
