lots of people say its not for fussy eaters - tastes funny apparently.
I use Dodson and Horrell - Stroppy mare herbs -
I had a mare who was an ex 2x broodmare Cleveland Bay = She just didnt think she should be working - once a month would be tight and sore across her back - arguing when schooling.
Nothing on the ground - but generally didnt fancy working very hard!
2 weeks into the herbs we had a 'spell' due - She was good as gold! Bendy, soft, relaxed and actually working the best we ever had!!! we started on the reccomended 4 scoops a day = after 3 weeks were now on 1 - 1.5 scoops (According to time of month) a day and were getting on spectacularly!!!
*Recent improvement in work is combined with a new trainer = but the effects seen at the beginning of trial were without new said trainer.
Thanks, that's really interesting to know. My mare is always fine to handle on the ground but buggers about when ridden when she's in season. Similar to yours she just gets stubborn and doesn't want to work. I know how she feels! I wonder if there's a human equivalent. I currently medicate myself with wine and a hot water bottle!xx
I use it on my very mareish mare, took about 2 weeks to completely get into her system and it is recommended that you start your mare on it 3 months before her first season.
I wasn't sure it was doing anything for my mare so i decided not to bother getting another bottle, noticed a big difference and she went straight back on it.
If you do decide to try it, get the liquid version, gets into their systems quicker.
It is fantastic!
My mare was very mareish before using oestress. Didn't take long at all to work. Although she's fairly big (16.3) she only has 25ml each day including during her season.
My mare has been on it for years. I took her off it a couple of years ago to see if it would make a difference and she was back on it within a week lol.
She gets a bit sore when her season starts and makes her a bit tetchy, the oestress seems to lessen the pain a bit.
I use it all year round, never take her off it and she seems to be in the same frame of mind as a result. Only noticed a difference slightly last Summer when she was next to some geldings in her field. She seemed to have a very intense "season" around June/July time and was totally obsessed by them for a couple of days, didnt wait for her treat when I turned her out which is not her style - usually!
