Anyone use olive oil on their leather?

When I recently bought a new saddle the saddler advised me to use olive oil on it rather than neatsfoot oil as it doesn't rot the leather... Came up nice and shiny, so have now used it on my bridle, my long boots (way better than any boot polish)...

Hope all my leather isn't going to fall apart now!
 
Trying to economise, I put my studs in a sunflower oil bath over the winter (instead of clipper oil) - in the spring they were mouldy and stank and were disgusting. At that point I decided never to try using food oil for other purposes again. So I'm really interested in your post - but then you probably don't put your tack away for the winter and not look at it for 5 months!
