If so, are they any good?

Have seen a fantastic offer where the aspen HW is half price... and as I need a cheapy HW (horse is 4 so expecting him to grow - I am not/will not buy him a rambo yet!) and it seems pretty good?

Opinions?

Very good rugs, only issue i have is my sec a has skinny shoulders and they slip too far back sometimes, but shes never ripped/torn/broken them and she hoons around the field like an idiot so i would say they are pretty hardy :p :D

I have a stable rug for my 3 yo (ditto - she is growing still!) and I'm not unhappy with it - warm and does the job, and the only rug she has that actually fits around her shoulders and isn't too baggy - she has been 6'3 since she was 2, which is when she got the rug. The buckles at the front aren't great quality, and the neck part seems a bit too tight - also would prefer the whole rug to be deeper BUT "you pays your money, you takes your choice...". I think they are better than some of the other "value" rugs out there!

You get what you pay for....

How much have you seen them for? My local saddlery stocks these (combo) at an everyday price of £49.99 anyway....

got a cheap one for my colt as I knew he would grow out of it in a few months time

Leg straps broke but I did not want to use them any way

fits fine and stays in place even though I got it a size too big for him to grow into

i had the konig turnout last year. it didnt fit my pony, was far too shallow on him. altho it was very snug and waterproof. i sold it on ebay and bought a jhl and a falpro as they seem to fit my boy perfectly.

I've had a couple but they have torn, and waterproofing isn't great. Sold one on and kept one as a spare. Not as good as Weatherbeeta or Horseware but you get what you pay for. I will try and get a better brand in a sale next time.

I bought what I thought was a Rhinegold Aspen ( was in a Rhinegold bag) from local saddlery today. I had taken it out of the bag to see what it looked like out of the bag and bought it for £45...not bad for a heavyweight combo and I was desperate for one due to my filly being so cold.

Took it straight to yard to try it on, thats when I noticed it had a Harlequin Equine badge rather than a Rhinegold one ( have heard of Harlequin but never used them or actually come across them, google them when I got home and they are identical to the Rhinegolds). Not as good a fit as her Amigo MW but it did the job and she was alot warmer. She is only 18 months old and growing alot so cheap rugs are great.
:D

love mine, fits my tb very well, doesnt move, its very light even when its soaking wet which i find very important as the last thing he nees is to be lugging a heavy rug round.

A friend gave me a MW Combo for my mare that she has had years, its gone a bit thin on the filling, but fits Melly beautifully and is a super layer. Ive also got a couple of their stable rugs and they are brilliant!!
I think they fit the cobbier type better, but definately a good spare, and worth the money IMO.

ETA: Isnt it funny how oppinions are so different! I think its like the Masta rugs - love 'em or hate 'em, no inbetween! :) Just tickled me!

Friend bought a MW and a HW last year. They were a poor fit around the chest and had the mini skirt look about them. They linings started to rip after a matter of weeks and then they stated to leak. She bought a JHL HW combo and a MW Landa Freestyle instead.

lol, definately difference of opinion :)

Its just I don't want to shell out loads for a rambo/rhino yet, as not sure if he will stay 6f6 or make 6f9, and he has put a hole in his rug at the minute - I need something to keep him warm whilst it is mended.

See, I hate masta rugs - they were like a Miniskirt on my 3/4 tb!! also felt they were poorly fitting on the shoulder, and rubbed his mane :p

I love rhinos and amigos though!

Derby house rugs are pretty great as well, shame about the ghastly colours :p

I personally don't like them at all. I had a loan horse last year and bought him one as a stable rug. He came with only a turnout, so I went to the nearest tack shop and bought him the cheapest rug I could find for the night, so long as it kept him warm I wasn't bothered.

The outside material of my stable rug was a bit like a tent, very rustley and actually scared my youngster :)

Not very good quality, the front fastenings are awful and pulled on my horses chest, but you get what you pay for.

If not then could you afford a more mid range one such as weatherbeeta etc, that way it may at least retain some of it's value should you want to sell it if he outgrows it?

i have a rhinegold HW detach-a-neck stable rug. It isnt the best quality buckle-wise but it is a lovely thick duvet type rug and is keeping my boy snuggly warm at the moment. I cant comment on durability as he's only worn it for 2 nights so far!

I don't like weatherbeeta personally, find that they only fit tb types properly, they move quite a lot on horses.

I will buy him a good quality rug, but I just need something to get us through this winter and next; usually I just throw a waterproof sheet over the less waterproof rugs, which seems to work well :)

I bought a 6ft HW combo in a 'sale' - it is a bit short in the back and only has a small tail flap. I would not buy again.

Strange isn't it, I love Weatherbeta, the only rug that fits my lad perfectly because of his movement. He most certainly is not a TB.

TBH as with everything it is trial and error, what suits Captain with his long body and huge movement is not right for Fany with short legs and a big barrel.

i personally love rhinegold rugs, bought a HW stable and turnout combo for my TB and they have been brilliant, they have lasted 3 bad winters, used constantly and its only this winter that they have started to show wear and tear! deffinitely would buy again.

I think for the price of them, you cant really complain. I love weatherbeeta and masta but just cant afford the heavyweight rugs.

I'm looking at replacing mine for the coming winter, but i certainly am keeping my others as spares!
