I need a new middleweight rug for my boy. He has always had weatherbeeta. He wears a 6'6 turnout but when i bought his heavyweight stable rug the 6'6 is quite large on him and he could have had a 6'3. Do the Shires rugs come up big or are they standard sizes cos im not sure which size to order..

I'd say that Shires come up small if anything - well certainly I've found they could do with being deeper.

However, I've got a chill cheeter for my boy that I've used on the warmer 'cold' nights, and he's always been comfortable temperature wise. But he could have done with a 6'9".

His Mark Todd MW fits much, much better.

my tbxish has 2 shires stable rugs - the economy standard neck one which is a bit flimsy but ideal on a budget or as an under rug, and the chillcheeta combo which is about 375g fill?
she has a 6ft3 and its a very good fit however i wouldnt recommend them if you need something very deep or you have a very wide horse. also, i had to buy a stretchy lycra hood for under it as i found it rubbed her mane out where the neck bit jons onto the rest of the rug

I have a few Shires rugs, stable rug and a couple of their Fleecey quilt rugs and I find the sizing very generous and nicely fitted around the neck, they aren't scrimpy in size on a 16.2 mw and a 17.3 mw. They have their normal size rugs 6ft6 and 6ft9. I Really like Shires rugs.

I've gotta Shires stable rug for my chunky cob and I find it's worn really well. The size was just right for him and left plenty of room down the sides/under his tummy, whereas another one I bought in an on-line sale (sorry can't remember the make) didn't.

So yes, I can recommend their rugs. Cheap and cheerful, but good honest value. I also had one of their fleecy rugs until the pup had a go at it!
