Morning, I'm wanting to get more structure to my training for 15/20 mile rides, has anyone had experience of these sat nav watches, I know they are designed for runners but to be able to track how far and at what speed we've done would be fab!

No, but it's quite easy to do with a bit of patience and google maps/earth. Or there is a site called mapmyrun.com which also does cycling and horse riding. Just mark out your route - so you know how long it is and then start timing when you leave your start point. This is how I do it and I have various bits of my routes in segments, ie Church to Forest entrance is 2.5km, then Forest Route 1 is 8.5km, Forest Route 2 is 14 km etc. I can then mix and match to get variety of terrain and pace and I know how far I have gone and how long it took so I can do my speed calculations.

I can't afford a sat nav watch as I am more keen on getting a heart rate monitor at the moment, hopping on and off with a stethoscope is very boring!!

Garmin do a combined HR monitor & Satnav - Forerunner305. I have it and tis good, though I actually use the satnav function far more. Very helpful training tool, as it also maps your elevation - my 'big hill' ride turned out to have less climbing overall than going round the undulating forest.

Oooh, I will have a look at that one then - I like multi-tasking things

So, do you just pop the wireless HR sender under the girth or do you need some other fixing arrangement?
