Anyone used an RS-Tor??

I've got one & I'm a big fan, I bought it when I had a very sharp, reactive tb, who was built like a whippet, I really think that it kept me in the saddle several times, as she had lightening fast reactions (unlike me!)
The only time I fell off her I wasn't holding it, the reason for the fall was she saw a thistle!
I haven't got her anymore, as she was put down after an accident in the field, her replacement is much more sensible but I still use it, just in case really as I probably don't need it anymore but no horse is 100% safe.
They are a bit over priced & you could probably make one if you're clever - I'm not clever so I bought mine.

We have one, replaced a canter bar, as the thinking was you already hold the RS-tor rather than trying to grab the canter bar mid-spook.

Not that cob spooks at much, quite sane.

That's why I like it...currently my mare reacts so fast I don't have time to think 'better grab the neck strap' but I do see it and remember as I fly past...

Make your own...all you need is a dog clip and a length of something that you can tie a good knot in so it doesn't slip through your fingers, I used an old fillet string. My cobby job can do a seriously quick spin thing!

I came of my youngster 3 times and my confidence was well gone. I did not ride him for a while. I have made myself an RS-Tor type thing and like the RS-Tor you can still use both hands for riding without letting go. It has not been put to the test yet, but I feel a little more confident now. I hope it works when it needs to.

Hi yes, I got one a few years ago and have posted about it on here before. I got mine to get my confidence hacking on a young horse and I would highly recommend. I agree that a homemade one may be fine but at least with the RS-tor you know it has been properly tested and won't snap at a key moment! It has a degree of elasticity which would be v difficult to replicate and feels just right to reduce the jolt factor on your hands, wrists etc.

I dug mine out a couple of months ago when mare was going through a daft couple of weeks and felt like she was going to buck me off, it reminded me how useful they are.

I much prefer it to a neck strap which could slip down the horses neck if the horse did get loose and possibly cause a nasty accident.

I think you will be pleased with it, its certainly helped me stay on board on more than one occasion :)

Heres what I wrote last time............
I bought it when I started riding after 30 years off and since I felt very weak and riding a spooky horse I didnt want to take any chances. As I progressed I used it for when I started jumping and doing XC. It does allow your hands to move while a neck strap or a balance strap dont - thats its key thing. The rubber section means it doesnt jolt your arm or shoulder much.

It did help anchor me for several spins and some leaps sideways but needs to be adjusted to the right length or it doesnt work so well. It made me feel a lot more confident and I didnt know I even had it in my hand. Its very comfortable.

A friend who used did say that when she fell off she fell so close to the horse that he stood on her, when otherwise she might have been thrown clean away. (thank goodness for back protector!) and the only time I came off when I was using it (cat leap over a 2ft9 fence) I landed standing up - which is good but also bad in that I could have damaged my foot.

It is very well made and yes it is expensive but I am sure if you dont like it you could sell for high price on ebay /preloved.

So - pros and cons really. I would use it again though if I had a new horse to ride and was at all unsure.

Thanks for that, interesting about falling too close to the horse will bear that in mind
