Hi all

Now looking for stallion - have just found out that sadly one choice is no longer with us - RIP Sponeck.

I knew him when he was in Co Durham/Yorkshire - what a lovely horse - so sad.

So I started to look for alternatives and found that it appears there is stil some frozen semen available from Caprimond (his dad).

Anyone used him? Any problems? What's the best route to import semen? - any contacts ? - I've read all the stuff on here about not using agents and that's all I can find.

Apologies for asking probably the same questions as others

- I'm finding it difficult to get any info other than 1 agent website.

Thank you all.

It is sad that both his parents have outlived him. Michael was devasted when he had to be PTS. Sponeck was never really promoted & I think that was a complete waste of a lovely stallion.

Hi Magic104

I was hoping you'd reply - I found some of your previous posts on here and BD website when searching for Sponeck.

I was really sad to hear about Sponeck - I'd intended using him when he was in the north, quite a few years ago but he kind of went off the radar and I lost touch with his old owner. Please pass on my condolences to Michael - I can understand his feelings - Sponeck was lovely and he bred some lovely stock up here.

Just a quick question - did you ever meet any more Caprimond stock - just out of interest ? I breed for temperament as one of my main quests and everything I'd met by Sponeck, as he was himself, were lovely characters.

Thank you - no one else seems to have any answers - although maybe it's early days

Contact the owners of Caprimond directly, http://www.klosterhof-medingen.de

They speak English and are good to work with. I dont think Caprimond's frozen is great, but they will be able to tell you what his chilled is like and whether it would be viable to ship it over here.

Bluewood stud are standing a Caprimond grandson if you wanted to stick to a British based stallion, Titelheld by Hohenstein. I've not seen him in the flesh yet so cant tell you too much about him but he is meant to have a super temperament.

Caprimond himself is a real gentleman, really know for super ridability and type. it's one of the reasons he is one of the most popular Trakehner stallions ever

Thank you Volatis - thought you may be the one who has the right info - have looked at Hohenstein - gorgeous and throws some gorgeous looking stock

You wouldn't have a direct address for Hohenstein's people and also any info on his stock's temperament (please and thank you

)?

Titleheld - also had a look at him, but keep going back to Caprimond (and Hohenstein!!) - haven't seen very much stock by Caprimond over here so I thought it might be a bit more unusual.

Thank you so much for direct address - I will contact them pronto - would much prefer chilled but wasn't sure that was an option.

Hi, I will pass on you condolences for sure, though cant believe it is a year already. Caprimond is well known for his easy temperment & Sponeck or Munchkin as he was known was just a lovely. I believe that Karen Bassett put one of her mares to Munchkin. Our rising 3yo has the same temperment & loves cuddles, & has taken after Sponeck rather then his dam.

Yes Medigen have Hohenstein too. he's actually very nice in the flesh. And like his sire has been producing cracking stock both inside and outside the Trakehner breed.

Again I have heard Hohenstein's frozen isn't great but i think you'd be fine with his chilled. We bred to another similarly bred stallion of theirs, Latimer, (he is out of a Caprimond mare but very stamped by him) , and had 2 fillies, and couldn't be happier with them.
