Anyone used CBD oil for appetite / mobility?

I have an elderly dog that has always had a poor appetite but has been put on a prescription diet which is less calorie dense than previous foods so although he is eating as well as usual, he has lost weight. Tried the usual changes of food and more meals, and he is in the best routine for him.

His condition also causes weight loss. He is otherwise happy and still enjoying walks etc, although has the usual ailments of old age e.g. a bit of weakness and soreness in back end.

So I'm wondering if anyone has used CBD oil to good effect? I'd just like to get him eating a little more if possible, and keep him comfortable for as long as he has left.

Yes he's on galliprant - can't say it makes a noticeable difference but there's also a neurological element to his back end movement.

(At this point I should mention the usual caveat - any changes and adjustments will be discussed further with my vet)

CBD is contraindicated with quite a number of groups of drugs including NSAIDs and steroids.

Galliprant is a NSAID.

There are other NSAIDS which might be more effective for your dog and also drugs for neuropathic pain which could be added to his regime if your vet feels appropriate.

Have you been offered Librela? It can alleviate the pain associated with arthritis. Monthly subcutaneous injection, which you can administer at home if your vet is happy for you to do so. It provides analgesia by reducing nerve growth factor in osteoarthritic joints.

Yeah I figured it would be but the galliprant doesn't appear to do anything really. If it's something that could work I'd discuss that with the vet.

No we haven't been offered another medication - galliprant was advised as it's least likely to affect his ckd. To be fair this was before I pointed out his mobility was more neurological than pain.

As far as I can tell he does not appear to be in pain (he's quite a drama queen so usually obvious!), I just want to try to prevent him losing more weight whilst also managing the mobility.

Okay, I didn't realise he had chronic kidney disease.

Galliprant is less likely to affect the gut or impact the liver and kidneys than other NSAIDS.

Yes sorry I didn't want to overcomplicate the post by adding too much information.

He's an old man with a few comorbidities bless him.
