Any thoughts? Particular reasons for using it? Thoughts/opinions/examples very very much appreciated!!

Yes use 1/2 measure daily on OH's mare who is prone to stressy colic (though only having it every other day now she's out of work), never has another stressy colic since, eats it fine and strangely her mareish behaviour is vastly better on it

super_kat uses it on one of horse mareish mares and she is lovely on the stuff..

Also PM h'smum as she was the inventor of it!

Very popular wiht lots of good results.

I've started to use it on Spider & I've just done the 5 days loading of 50ml twice a day & today I'm reducing it to 50ml once a day.
I decided to give it a try as he can be grumpy to girth up & rug up. I know his teeth, back, saddles etc are ok & a few people had suggested it could be excess gastric acid. He's fine to girth up once he's walked out of his stable or when I'm on him. Plus he's working & jumping really well, so I had thought it's probibly just him, but wanted to make sure.
So far I've noticed no difference. I will continue for the 2nd bottle which is 10 more days & if there is no improvement I will stop taking it & assume it's not excess acid but just him

H's mum was very helpful & I've heard good reports on it which was why I've tried it. Hopefully it'll turn out that he doesn't have an issue & I don't need to use it.
I'll let you know what the outcome is.
Why were you thinking of trying it?

Tried the liquid on my wind sucking/crib biting TBxID - he hated it and spat it out. Then tried the powder which was added to his feed which he accepted - I'm not sure it made any difference to his habits but he looked quite well on it.

I used to use it on B for travelling to events - basically because he came off the box when we got home looking v tucked up and used to stress about being left on the lorry at events. It just settled him enough that he ate and was better in the lorry. He has now realised that eventing happens when it happens and is angelic on the lorry, so I just have the remainder of a bottle in my first aid kit for 'emergencies'.

Same reasons as you tbh, he is staying quite tucked up after competing, is grumpy to girth up and do rugs up, almost floors you if you even touch his tummy at the moment and is just a bit "narky" in general, all of which a very helpful member on here has suggested may be symptoms of acidic stomachs/ulcers. I am going to speak to my vet about getting him checked over anyway, but just wandered re. the effects of Coligone and reports people have

If you suspect ulcers then I'd get him scoped - it's the one thing I didn't do with Twiggy which I wished I'd done. Coligone is good, but I'd get him scoped first then if that comes back clear I'd try coligone.

Spider used to be grumpy to brush his belly too, but he's fine with that now as I persevered with it

He's also not generally grumpy so I was thinking it's more likely to be a habit rather than an underlying issue, but thought this would be a good way of checking it.
I'd be interested to hear how you get on & also if anyone else with similar symptoms had any other ideas.

Used it on a TB ex racer eventer who got anxious and nappy at events - definitely helped him cope. He drank and ate well during the day of the event which he never used to and his droppings were normal as opposed to loose. 3 hour journey there and back so long day for him) He managed not to boil over so became much more manageable. Didn't nap going up the horse walks to SJ and XC which was a first for him!

Use it on my 3. None have had **touches wood** had colic or have any vices ie wind sucking etc.
I first tried it on Berts because he was losing weight whilst being pumped full of food. Within a week his coat was glossy and he was putting on weight - I could cut his food and his stomach was able to break down the food properly.
Snoopy had it because when I bought him his droppings were very loose. Hes quite a hotty anyway. He didnt like powder but loves the liquid. He now has solid dropping and is a lot more relaxed when travelling.
Winston now has it just because tbh! but i have noticed his coat is even more shiney now since being put on it.

It gives me peace of mind with all of them on it

i used it on my 2yo this year when competing, she got stressed when away at shows and dropped weight over night, gave her a syringe full on this night before and it helped her settle and relax overnight. not had any issues with weight loss since using it. its brill stuff and H's mum is brill to talk to about it.

I use it on my old cob who is prone to getting gassy, it settles him very quickly indeed. I know a number of owners who use it prior to travel as their horses stress in the trailer and I have seen almost miraculous results on a mare with diagnosed ulcers. She was so vioulent one evening thrashing in her stable that it was almost considered safer to get a gun and shoot the poor mare. We tried Coligone and by day three she was a totally new animal. All her grumpiness had gone, her eyes were soft and she is now a pleasure to be with.

I wholeheartedly recomend Coligone and always have some tucked away for 'emergencies'.

Funny I was thinking of trying coligone on my grumpy old man, who also is a pain to groom and rug and dispite eating well is not putting on weight. this thread has definatly made my mind up to try it

I use it on Spur, but only when we change her routine (summer to winter, in more) as she tends to windsuck, really did see a change in her, she tended not to WS as much at feeding time and was more settled to girth her up and put rugs on. Speak to H's mum.
