Anyone used dog or human clippers on a horse?

Have a set of dog clippers to do the head.

My old horse was dreadful with clippers, but I needed to do his head. Bought a pair of reconned dog clippers from ebay, and used them. The didnt give the greatest clip in the world, but it did the job.

I had an old pair of dog clippers that I used for years on the horse, for years I only did his face, last year I tried a neck and belly on him and they did ok but did cut quite short. They cost £19 and have stood up to years of abuse and being stored in damp tack rooms and they still work ok-ish! I now have a set of horse trimmers which I've used more on the dog and my dad than the horse!

I use human clippers for trimming whiskers, feathers, and bridle race and so on. I have horse clippers for everything else.

I work with SJ's and we clip all their legs and heads with Andis ultra edge dog clippers. They are a bit pricey but they are absolutely worth every penny- if one is a bit sensitive we have even clipped a whole horse with them. They are so much quieter and more delicate than horse clippers that very few of them seem to mind them. They are my ultimate bit of kit that make clipping so many and so often bearable!!

I use my dog clippers on my hairy girls legs... A) because they are quiet and low vibration and B) because they give a really good finish on her legs rather than using full size clippers...

Do you know what make they were??

I think they were hummingbird ones- I have seen them for sale recently. Nice and cheap and considering I never got the blades sharpened and stored them in the damp I think they did well. The last few years the battery's died (they were rechargeable but now only work while plugged in!) but still worth £20 for at least 5 years work from them! And they came with spare blades, combs to attach, oil, a brush and a very sturdy case! They are so quiet a friend used them to get her youngster used to clippers- was clipping excess ear hair on the second day!

I use andis 2 speed to clip my show miniatures so they do work but blunt a bit faster. They are the same price as some horse clippers so it's much o a much. Human ones don't work on normal areas but I use them to clip the missed bits when I find them in show day about two mins before my class.
