Has anyone ever used frontline on their horse?

My horse has really itchy hindlegs - I keep them really clean, wash them with hibiscrub and have also used insectisde shampoo but he still is really itchy :confused:

He doesn't have loads of feathers or mudrush so I think he might have mites and someone suggested frontline.

If anyone has used it, did it work and is there any risk of an allergic reaction?

my cob stamped her back feet,i used frontline twice (2 weeks apart) and have never needed it since.
the beasties that cause the stamping burrow under the skin,my pony has some rougher skin under her heels but i use pig oil and it never cracks or causes problems and she has never had mud fever.
 
I used it on my old cob who had lots of feathers and always had itchy legs. But was particularly bad at one point and found owt he did infact have mites, Found it realy easy to use and very effective. I was prescribed it by my vet tho, so may be worth having a quick word with yours to see if thats wot theyd recommend.... I didnt experience any side effects with it either. Hope this helps :)
 
I know someone who used it and it didn't help at all. But in fairness she was hopeless at following instructions and probably did it completely wrong.
 
Yes, my friend has used it on her cob, has stopped stamped, he had really bad mites on all four legs, the vets gave her the frontline it was the large spray on type.
 
Yes, my vet 'prescribed' Frontline for lice treatment when my in foal mare came back from stud with lice. Worked fine. It's an expensive way of treating though. Could you not try a dilution of Deosect? My vet sold me 50mls of Deosect so I didn't have to invest in a whole tin. http://www.hyperdrug.co.uk/Deosect-Spray-250ml/productinfo/DEO250/. But Iif you do buy a whole tin it will last forever! :)
 
I used to keep mine on a working farm and the farmer used to put it on all their cattle to help with the flies - she also put it on our horses as she said it would stop those little ear biting flies you get in summer which drive them all nuts - it worked too!
 
my vet said it is not licenced for horses but recommended it.
remember,you are buying it for your dog and you need the pump spray not the pippettes.
 
I have used it for tick prevention when I had some particularly ticky grazing, also for those little ear-bitey flies with great success. Also after months & months of struggling with head lice on my OH's youngest daughter I used it on her, she has never had one since! Shame the stuff is useless for it's intended purpose of de-fleaing cats & dogs these days, the spot-on stuff I have to buy now costs fortunes :(
