Anyone used miscanthus or straw wood pellets for bedding?

I use miscanthus straw (elephant grass) from..http://www.fennington-fibres.co.uk/

I LOVE it, and will never ever go back to any other bedding. It's easy, quick and very cheap! I have rubber matting, put 4 bales in, in 3 days or so it will be well bedded down. Just take out the muck, and clear out the wet once a month, maybe less. I put a new bale in every 7-10 days :)

Ditto all of the above (and company) bar I have rubber matting, use two bales as the main bed, take out wet once a week, and top up with one bale once a week also.

Fabulous stuff, quick and easy to muck out, keeps the muck heap small and one of my boys is so messy and wet normally on other bedding but you wouldnt know on this stuff.

Is the miscanthus edible? My old lady eats everything inc Equibright, Nedz and Bliss! She's on shavings in her shelter, but Id like to have her on something more fluffy and absorbent! x

I used straw pellets on rubber mats and find it very good. I think it’s a bit more absorbent than wood pellets and rots down more quickly which was my main reason for changing as we have 33 horses so need to keep my muck heap as small as possible! I find the fact they don’t need watered saves time too. I use 3 - 4 tonnes a month over the winter when all the horses are stabled overnight week which I think is pretty economical. I buy from this company:

In terms of price compared to straw, is it worth it, though? I was desperate to switch so I've done my sums on straw v wood and my last invoice says £8 for straw for July as he was out lots. Obviously it'll increase over winter: is it going to work out cheaper long term, I wonder?

My post was really asking about the pelleted varieties.

I was just curious what the different pellet types were like to use. I normally use the bulk standard economy wood pellets over mats in winter and wasn't even aware that miscanthus and straw pellets were also available until I found this website last night. Then I noticed the price difference between the different types of pellets and hoped the cheaper straw or miscanthus pellets might be just the same to use as the more expensive wood ones.
