anyone used monty roberts or there students

I've had a couple of lessons with Richard Maxwell, so far very useful indeed.
Have gone to see him as I have a very nice little horse who looses the plot when away from home.

A friend got one in for a mare who was agressive. She tryed to join up with the horse and nearly got her head kicked in. She told us to "shoot the bloody thing" and left.
Thats just my expereance. Maybe others had more luck.

I have been to Monty demos and used the methods with wild and nervous youngsters with excellent success.

Read the books, done join up a few times.
Sure, they can probably work wonders with some horses. But tbh, it's just common sense. You can probably read one of Monty Robert's books and complete join up yourself, the rest just literally seems to be using some sense. Unless you've got a major problem, I expect they'd charge you a lot of money for not a lot of gain, and I expect there are better people out there for the job ;)

Honestly, nothing against Monty Roberts, but it IS a huge money making scheme ontop of the horsemanship. It's made out like you MUST buy x, AND y AND z or you WILL ruin your horse. Hmmm... I haven't found that ;)

sorry that responce made me laugh i no i shouldnt and i guess they did not follow the advise

peole dont think much of them then

I have used grant bazin, yes it cost alot of money but it was worth it. My friend also used him for a loading problem, and it sorted the problem out.

I went to a demo a few months ago was very disapointed by it tbh, ohh ahh at the scared pony, yes I deal with that each day. Although i was impressed with kelly marks,I did not rate her before.

I sent a mare to one of Monty Roberts students a while ago and he sorted her. I was initialy put off by his association with Monty Roberts, but he really had incite to what the mare needed.

He is very honest in his approach.

I'm an Intelligent Horsemanship Recommended Associate and currently taking bookings for end of June, so I guess there are a few people who like what we do! I can't imagine that the person who said 'shoot the bloody thing' was a Recommended Associate - there are plenty of people claiming to be students of Monty without having any formal qualification. And yes, working with horses is common sense, but as Kelly Marks recently pointed out in the BHS magazine, maybe common sense isn't so common! It's easy to use common sense when you've been brought up with horse or you own several to learn from, but for the one horse owner who came into horses later in life, where does the 'common' bit come from?
I love my job, I know I make a difference to the horses and people I meet. I'm also a BHSAI and Veterinary Physio, and yes I need to make a living to pay the mortgage, but I can assure you that if I was looking for a job to make my fortune, it wouldn't be this one! Long hours and sometimes dangerous work - you only do it because you passionately believe in what you do.

I used Kelly Marks for my mare who after 2 years still wouldn't load onto a lorry, we were accepted onto one of your demonstrations at Towerlands, we managed to get the mare on the lorry on the day of the demonstration. I spent all day with my horse and Kelly and Ian it was a very good learning experience, Kelly did join up with my mare who was not the easiest of horses to deal with, she got her loading etc during the demonstration and loaded her straight away on my lorry to go home. I did have a follow up session with Hannah one of her associates to get my mare to load on different surfaces and environments, 6 years on my mare loads anywhere in any weather and will travel 1st, 2nd or last on the lorry and loads herself and stands in position for the partition to close.

I totally recommend their way of working.

Yes I have and would again.

Monty backed my unbackable mare at a demo. To this day she has never ever put a foot wrong again, although she gave him a hard time in the demo. I have also had one of Kellys RA out to help with a very difficult pony on the ground, just to back up and reassure what I was doing.

Anyone that has an RA out to deal with their horse, is given a questionaire to complete and return direct to Kelly, if you had a problem or any concerns then you should say so, as she will deal with every complaint thoroughly.

The cost to be totally honest is no more than getting someone out for a lesson, and what I really like is they work with you as the owner, handler etc, they do not treat you as an idiot, have a wholier than thou attitude, they are genuinely in it to help both you and your horse work through the issue.

We've had Sarah Weston, an IH RA, out to help desensitise a spooky horse. Really good methods, a fun session and a very chilled out horse at the end...oh and very affordable...would highly recommend.
