Anyone used the horse bit shop?

I've tried to call them a few times, they never answer the phone and they never return answerphone messages!! Gave up with them.

keep trying, I did eventually get hold of them and was refunded.. Its such a shame as it could be a fantastic company, the final straw for me was being lied to twice as to where my order was.

I bought 2 bits from them which I returned by special delivery. They refused to refund saying they never received them despite me sending them a copy of the signed for delivery clearly showing that the owner had signed it.
NEVER going near them again!

I ordered a weymouth & a bradoon on Sept 14th - received the weymouth today but no bradoon. FFS. You would think they'd realise I wanted to trial them together. Apparently NS are out of stock of it so they (Horse Bit Shop) don't know when they can get me one, yet they'll send me the weymouth & let the 30 day trial tick away when I can't try it?! However, if I go on the NS website they show both bits I wanted from HBS as in stock.

:rage:

I've tried to leave a message on their Facebook page but funnily enough(!) you can't post to their wall.

Absolutely the worst company I have ever used !!!! 2. Lots of money taken from my account that should not have been taken !!!! Not able to get through on phone, un answered emails and after 2 phone calls with promises to sort it all out ...... Still no refund!!!! I am so so annoyed ....... Why should businesses Get away with this , tearing my hair out !!

Reading this thread with interest, and going to check my bank account!!! I ordered an NS Universal Trans Angled Lozenge (pony) over the phone, specifically wanted something with the option of a little poll action and discussed this with the lady. She said an order would be in on the Thurs (I think I'd called on the Tues). Friday the lady called to say the bit hadn't arrived, they Hadn't taken payment yet, but that she'd keep me informed of when i came in. Eventually I got a call to say that it was due the following day, but that she was off to The National Dressage Champs so would get a friend to post it out. The bit arrived, but was not a universal, but a loose ring snaffle. I called up to say it was the wrong bit, and it was suggested that I'd requested the wrong bit (I won't order by phone again!!!!!) I am quite certain that we discussed poll action and the shape of the bit I was looking for. no compliment slip, receipt of payment or any sort of proof of purchase was included in the envelope. I've lost interest!

I have to admit that communication has been good, although it'll be interested to see how I get on trying to exchange the bit, I'm a little nervous about posting it back now, having read all the above posts!!!

Dear All,

Having read all the messages in this thread, I thought it best to post a reply as there are quite a few misunderstandings, and I’d like to see if I could make things a bit clearer and put minds at rest where possible.

The Horse Bit Shop was foundered in 2002 - ten years ago. It was also known as Shop 4 Bits and was based in Chorley. Since being foundered The Horse Bit Shop has always carried the Pink, Purple, Burgundy and Silvery / Grey colour scheme, and incorporated the loose ring snaffle in its logo. A colour scheme and branding that has been recently replicated by a newly established business with a similar name that unfortunately has been quite misleading for customers. And although misleading, it is also complimentary, after all would you start a new business and base your corporate branding around a company that had a reputation for being fraudster, liars and crooks?

For those who are still unsure, The Horse Bit Shop is the only bit bank that allows you to trial bits for 30 days, paying only your postage and trial fee upfront with the balance to paid on the 30th day of the trial. All bits returned within the 30 day trial period do not get charged in full, therefore there is no need for a balance refund unlike other bit banks where you pay in full for each bit on ordering. All payments taken are using the secure payment method of Sage Pay and are all automated. The Horse Bit Shop doesn’t accept PayPal at this time.

The Horse Bit Shop was sold in 2009 after its standards started to slide and was bought out and moved to a new location in Doncaster. It is now a family run business, and since been taken over is undergoing improvements in all areas such as a new website, specially designed computer system, improved stock levels and quicker turnaround times. The improvements are already making things easier and run smoother, but unfortunately occasionally we still get caught out when suppliers are out of stock too. And given the majority of bits are made in the far east re-stocking can sometimes taken several months. This year has been particularly bad as I think the distributors have been feeling the pressure of the recession like us all and have not being importing the quantities that they have done in previous years.

Although The Horse Bit Shop does exhibit at several national events, despite comments made in this thread it has never exhibited or been to Blenheim or the National Dressage Champonships, in fact embarrassing to say but I don’t think any of its staff has been either!

On a personal reply to Mollymoomin, regarding your query over only receiving one of two bits from a double bridle set. If this is on trial from The Horse Bit Shop, the policy is to part despatch when an item is out of stock however your trial will only begin for a double bridle set when you receive both components. It makes sense that one is no good without the other!

Puddleduck – If the bit was on trial from The Horse Bit Shop, I would appreciate it if you could either PM me, or email me directly with the details of your order I would appreciate the benefit of the doubt to give me the opportunity to look into your query.

I would also appreciate it if anyone else has a problem, or query to email me direct at eodlin@thehorsebitshop.com and would appreciate the opportunity to resolve these matters and hopefully clear up any errors or misunderstandings.

Thank you for taking the time to read my post, Hopefully this may have ironed out some of your concerns, and those it hasn’t I’m more than willing to discuss if you drop me a direct email.
