Anyone want to do the Equine Affairs 3DE?!

Due to an unfortunate turn with my could-be-eventer mare, we have today been advised that we won't be fit to compete in the unaffiliated Equine Affairs 3DE at the Milton Keynes Eventing Centre on the 21st September, as today my vet has found a suspicious lump.

After much sobbing I now need to see if I can find anybody who wants to compete in my class (2'6 to 2'9 - class one) in my place in order that I can defer my entry fee to the spring event. Apparently the rules are that refunds/deferrals are allowed provided that there are people on the waiting list who can fill my allocated space. Due to various viruses and ground conditions there have apparently been record numbers of withdrawels and hence there is no longer a waiting list!

I appreciate that this event is only one week away, but I was wondering if there was anybody out there who had been undecided about entering and wanted to take this opportunity and just have a go!

If you know anybody please do put them in touch with me (hhb2_2005@yahoo.co.uk, and ask them to leave a phone number), as it would add insult to serious injury if I ended up losing my entire entry fee as well!

Thanks very much,

From an incedibly sad want-to-be-event-rider, and a poorly mare. x

How gutting for you. I was in the Open class and my horse has done a check ligament so cant jump for 6-8 weeks. Didnt realise I wont get my entry back. I emailed them today and am awaiting a reply. I think my sister had to withdraw last year and she got 50% of her entry plus all her stabling.

its a great event and was really looking forward to it so know how you are feeling!

I know I am genuinely gutted. When I woke up this morning, for a split moment I forgot that I had a poorly mare and was all happy... until it suddenly all came flooding back!

Still... will have to aim for the Spring event instead and just keep my fingers crossed that my mare's lump isn't serious.

When I spoke to Fiona at the Centre yesterday she told me they had received record numbers of withdrawels this September, mostly due to horses going lame because of ground conditions. It's all so sad! My thoughts go out to everyone else who has had to withdraw as well. x

Well, I am doing to Spring one (fingers crossed) as well so will see you there! Have you been before? Ive done it 4 times and have won the quiz a couple of times which paid for the weekends alcohol consumption!!

They didnt give me a refund, only the stable money back - pah.

Do you know what the lump is yet?

Ah great news! I have never been before, which is partly why I am so disappointed I think, as I let myself get overly excited about going for the first time! I shall have to remember that tip about the quiz then and give it a go!

We are having the lump examined first thing Monday morning with some scans and will hopefully know more then. It is attached to her shoulder blade and seems to be preventing her from bending properly on that side, and also inhibts her forward movement in that she appears to be a little short in front. Fingers crossed it isn't anything serious! x
