Sorry, I know it's naughty!

I'm looking for something cheap to tow a trailer with - got rid of the Terrano as it was too juicy for everyday use.

Where I'm moving is right on the edge of the lez zone so don't want to buy a lorry as knowing my luck they'll extend the zone.

any recommendations for cheap to run 4 x 4? I'm thinking the less electrics the better

so thinking:

Hilux
Defender

If you want a more economical car than a terrano dont get a Defender, they are very juicy. And defender leak left right and centre.I have had electrical problems with my defender where the water has come in a blown fuses/relays and switches. But i wouldent swap dafney defender for the world.

i don't really mind if it's juicy this time around as I'll only use it for towing. I only want to spend £1500/£2000 max and don't want something which (like the Terrano) had loads of gadgets to go wrong!

Would have kept the terrano but it was a bit of a nightmare as it was at the age where everything seems to go wrong.....i just figure that the more basic the better it would be to run....also need to get a 505. Did have an Ifor 510 but sold it as it was worth £3000 and at the time I needed the cash. Guessing I can buy a 505 for cheaper anyway and both my boys are under 16.1 and TB types so should be fine in the 505.

Is that the smaller Kia? I need to tow two horses with it (obviously inside a trailer and not tied to the bumper!)

Try a cheap Isuzu Trooper. We have one to tow with and had it two years and never let us down. You can get older ones quite cheaply and they are superb workhorses well up to towing two horses and a 505.

I have a rather clapped out Discovery which has done 150K, mechanically fantastic and tows like no other 4 x 4. However, is rather wrecked and doesn't look very smart. I think there are loads of them around at about £1,000.

What is your budget?

ooo lots of cheap cars......thanks for the details....appreciate you pm'ing me if anyone has anything they want to shift!

PS - got a year old barnsby GP if anyone wants to take it in Part X!

Im getting rid of my 95 Isuzu Trooper shortly cos my husband is treating himself to a new L200 which I can use to tow with, and I am inheriting his V40 because its much newer and has a CD player. Its done about 80k, I love it, very reliable, runs on veg oil/diesel mix very happily, bit tatty as it keeps making friends with other vehicles against my wishes. No idea how much it's worth though!

Apparently our petrol Shogun is worth £200. It is still lovely to drive, goes well, is comfortable, so if it passes the MOT in April we will keep it and not buy a replacement. You can buy quite a lot of petrol and pay the car tax on what it would cost to replace it.

It isn't going to depreciate much is it?
