I can't get that poor grey horse (was it Andy Kocher and Navalo de Poheton?) out of my head. Truly one of the most awful things I've seen. The rider looked devastated :(

Yes, on the livestream from Hickstead TV. The camera panned away quickly and when they came back they said the horse had been taken away fro assessment. Do you know what happened to him?

From the stands it looked like an obviously broken leg (people on the crowd were screaming), although the commentator tried (maybe for the children in the crowd?) to pass it off as a bandage coming loose. They got the screens up really quickly and they were up for a while while the vet and the horse ambulance came in. The horse was taken away in the ambulance but didn't look to me like he'd walked in (you could see the top of the trailer over the screens).

Yes, the livestream commentator said it looked like an injury to the fetlock, then said it might just be a boot coming loose. It did look like the poor horse had completely lost its action though so hoping, although not with much conviction, for some good news to filter through :(

So sad , I’ve just read on his Facebook page it was to be the horses last round of its career ( with retirement in mind.) How poignant was that comment and how awful .

That's really unfortunate. Very bad luck. Accidents like this must be very rare showjumping. I thought it was just xc and racing where horses had these sort of breakdowns.

I was sitting in the members directly in front of that green wall so saw the whole awful thing. Was not impressed by people in the crowd yelling STOP and whistling when he was obviously desperately trying, he basically threw himself on the floor to stop the poor thing. So devastating for everyone involved but very impressed by the arena team who reacted so quickly.

But leaving that tragic incident aside, it was a wonderful competition and well done William Funnell and Holly Smith.

I'm watching it on clipmyhorse as Hickstead is one of my favourites, just got to Andy Kocher and Navalo de Poheton. Absolutely horrible, but looks like the horse injured himself after he landed and took a bad step. absolute freak accident and my thoughts are with Andy and his team, I can't imagine how devastated they are.

One of the most famous horses ever died on derby day Ryan's son, fell at the last and broke his back...many years ago though but it does happen

I saw a horse break its leg at the first Liverpool Echo show two years ago. I don't think it's as rare as we'd like it to be :(

What sad news. Sounds like the team at Hickstead dealt with it quickly.

I witnessed the horse breaking its leg at the Liverpool International last Christmas and it was horrible to see. There was one at Bolesworth last week aswell, although I’m not sure entirely what happened.
