Animal 24/7, at Appleby. Just pulled 2 dead dogs out of n overheated car. So so sad.
I have never been to Appleby, but the ponies they have just shown look really quite scared.

I think its appalling! How can they get away with this type of treatment??
Working such young horses at a year old like that is horrendous. We are not allowed to compete a horse under saddle under the age of 4 years but they can race a yearling up and down a road at speed in the hot weather and only get a talking too!! Just can't comprehend it. It would seem that these people are completely above the laws that we all try to abide by. Makes me really mad!!!:mad:

Oh I soooo agree!!!

I just switched this programme on to see an RSCPA officer making a fuss about a YEARLING, yes, a YEARLING, being trotted into the ground on the flashing strip. Her advice......

it needs a rest!!!:mad::mad::mad:

FGS, these people are getting away with blue murder!!! Dogs dying in cars, yearlings trotted into the ground until they fall over, could you imagine their response if it was anyone else???:mad:

I hasten to add, I do NOT wish to do this

just finished watching it! :(
i have to say some of these cases are so bad!
leaving dogs in the car?!?!?! there is no excuse for that, i learnt not to leave a dog in a car by the age of 6! so someone who owns the car would easily know not to leave it in there!
poor dogs :(
and that gash on the horses leg but they said it was old?! it looked fresh!
i think that instead of animal testing, we should test things on people who like to abuse animals!! :D

It is horrible but that is also a very old episode of the programme as well. Doesn't make it any better mind.

This programme was the year after the meeting the pony drowned.
One of the dogs found in the car was already dead, the other they tried to save, had a temp of 104 after trying to cool it down, and was felt it had suffered with brain damaged so was destroyed.
To be honest the whole thing looked horrid for the poor animals.

If it was proud flesh...it would have been there for a month or so previously already. Which they never decided to air.
And also the sedation, quite easily wasn't enough given if it was still reacting that much. Had some truly awful accidents I've witnessed and the vet still managed to sedate them to a suitable level quickly.
And if there was a road sign in the river, surely before or during the event, you'd think they'd be safety checking it for the amount of grief they give that.
And the Shetland...Erm. They are 'meant' to carry a mans weight, let alone the SP racing.
And the dogs...Pretty sure that was in the public car park?

Don't get me wrong, I'm not condoning that ANY of the things recorded on it are acceptable, as they're not, the dogs were horrific,....BUT it doesn't give a fair picture or view on the subject showing just the negatives. You could to that about anything- racing, eventing, sales, etc....

I just think, if you want to make a statement on cruelty, then you really do need a 100% watertight arguement.

Again. I'm ready to get shot down in flames for this. And again, I DO NOT agree with cruelty in any way shape or form obviously...just dislike programmes and articles which show only the negatives. Like anything in life....there are positives to show also.

I just wanted to see beautiful hairies being paraded if I'm honest, that's why I kept it on TV. But no such luck.

To put it simply - I was disgusted.

Slightly off topic but if you're trotting around the fair ground, as shown ie getting to the river, are the roads they are riding on classed as public roads?
Just wondering if the "you must wear a hat if under 14 (or is it 16 now?) when riding on public roads" applies?
