So it looks like Max will be getting a WOW saddle! Yay!! Albeit a secondhand one as ;)

Now obviously we will be getting it fitted but because we won't be getting it new its a case of deciding what panels we need first so we can track some down through ebay/fitters etc. We'll also be contacting WOW with templates and pics to see what they suggest.

But, being impatient ;) I'm trying to work it out from their fitting guide http://wowsaddles.com/wow/nosaddlefitter.htm but because of his shape its not easy.

Soooo if you have/have had a WOW pretty please can you tell me what panel your horse had and describe the shape of your horses back - pics would be even better.

I'll get some pics of Max tomorrow for you all to advise too ;)

Thanks in advance :D

Pretty much if you horse is chunky and shaped like a round smooth barrel then they will need the SD panel

If any wither definition, muscle wastage they will need a D panel

All of my horses need a wide gullet so SDWG or DWG

When fit all needed DWG

However one is in a flat tree and the other a curved tree, both in the newer leather trees. A lot on ebay are the older and heavier resin trees and often the owners will claim not to know the difference!! (Leather trees started in 2007, so if resin its older)

However some horses in between a curved and a flat tree actually need the old resin tree, which is a halfway house

My advice - get a wow fitter out and pay them their time (usually £50) as well worth it to know what you should buy!!

I have the older style tree on P, although it is the newer carbon fibre one as I switched to an extra deep seat last year as the saddle was going on to her 4yo daughter who is a big mover and VERY athletic. Best description of P's back is a cob with a bit of wither :D and B is pretty similar. I have D panels with a tab and stitch line on her but they have been modified to widen the gullet (they date from before the DWG panels being available).

This is her from the side, she was about 9 -10 months preggers when the pic was taken, she's not really that fat normally!

I liked the seat so much I switched my other mare over to an XD seat as well but went for the flatter tree as she is very broad with not a lot of wither. She has the DWG panels with stitch line. Pic is the only one I have which you can see her back, ridden pic is prior to switching to the flatter tree.

She is now heading off to stud in the spring and the 4yo is probably going to get her saddle instead as she is already developing quite a flat back so is better suited to the flatter tree.

I also compete a friend's Fell Pony in a WOW. He has the old style tree but has DWG panel with tab and no stitch line. Like most natives very flat backed and hardly any wither.

WOW often have demo stock available at reduced prices and my fitter is certainly quite happy to come out and sort out what you need and then fit it once you have got it second hand. She also has quite a selection of second hand stuff.

I was a WOW fitter for 5 years and happy to advise if I can, also if you need a pair of black fixed block jumping flaps i have a client with a pair in excellent condition that would like to sell hers, I also have a selection of headplates for sale

i brought a new wow earlier this year, acutally an ex demo sort of one. it was one made for an international swedish rider and lady in sweden ordered it for her client in wrong colour and so hence i got it new on nice bargain. Wow then said they would tailor make panels for me as part of deal.

I got the WOW book from your horse live and talked to them there and sat on lots to find lout what seat type i want ie flat, medium, deep extra deep. i read the brochure and was like "oh my word how on earth do i know what i need or want and so many combinations.

John from elemental equine is my local fitter and he was great. he came our new years eve 5pm in the dark to fit to my 5 yr old who had had 3 weeks off. mine is a 16.3 WBXTB but barrell shaped like a WB but by no means fat as you can see her ribs just about. she has high withers so needs a curved tree, I am small hence seat size 1, then i wanted deep or extra deep as she is bing moving with big shoulder so got that. then the panels are DWG as she has wide gullet, no tabs i think and with stitchline. I think stichline gives more shape to wither/shoulder depressions. i have giant high dressage blocks my knee rollls are black and rest is nutmeg.

John knows what would fit my horse, made it up and put saddle on horse with 0 headplate as still youngster and very narrow. i then rode her in the dark in the farmyard. John then puffs air in the flair until it is all level and sitting right. I then did walk trot and canter and having gone from a wintec GP 200 i was like gee now i know how the pro riders just sit on their horses when got big movements and sitting tort is like a dream. she has gone up 3 headplates since then but you can fit these yourself. you can change the angle of the flaps to forwards or backwards depending on what you like the feel of.

they are very much you can have a saddle to feel what you want and fit lots of different options of horse. I would have had to have 3 new saddles by now because of the amount she has muscled up as WOWs allows the shoulder blade to move. her paces are longer and more swing in them as she can move. I know when i need a new headplate as her paces get stilted and she is grouchy.

make sure you get a good fitter this is the key to WOWs. I actually rang WOW and said who is a good fitter that will come to me. If there isnt one then a lady form WOw headoffice will come out.

The flair should not be pumped up hard. some horses think the air going in is funny but they are fine with it.

Definitely get a fitter out to tell you all the bits you need- I use Ruth Walker- pay them for their time and then hunt for your saddle. It's not worth getting wrong.

Hi, I have a WOW and also found the literature pretty confusing. My fitter lent me one of her saddles to try which was very helpful. Agree with other posts - a good fitter makes all the difference. Excellent saddle for a young horse that keeps changing shape.

Tried one of these that a friend had for her young horse, all properly fitted and all that. Hated it with a passion; like sitting in a beanbag. Horrible things.

Cant you get a WOW fitter out? I got one to fit my horse with exactly what I wanted (what fitted him and what seat etc. worked for me), then I went away and bought the parts off Ebay (second hand) and the fitter then put it together for me.

Had a fitter out and ridden in one, it really helped my back, now I need to find a second hand one in the size I need as I cant afford new.

I need a Size 1 tree on a straight Y bar with Extra Deep Seat, wanting dressage pads but would source these seperately if need be and DWG size 1 panels with tab and stitchline.

Wanting brown.
