Held their pee in for so long they start to shake?

It was tipping it down when I went to feed last night so Charlie was stood in his shelter. Gave him his food and noticed he was quivering slightly. I thought he was cold so I shut him in his shelter and put his fleece rug on for a bit.
Went back out an hour later and his whole body was shaking. I panicked and ran off to ring my boss for some advice. Came back 10 mins later to find he had had a pee and had almost completely stopped shaking. As relieved as I am I could throttle the little sod for scaring me like that!

He is fine today. No temparature, sheath is pretty clean as I cleaned it a couple of weeks ago, I saw him have a pee today and that was all perfectly normal. Why would he hold it in for so long?

Does your shelter have anything on the floor i.e straw that he could pee onto? My horse will not pee unless there is deep bedding or lots of grass in case he gets his legs wet. Perhaps your horse was so desperate for a pee but had nothing to pee onto if he was in the shelter? An idea perhaps!!

YES! A mare I had on loan used to do this! If you brought her in from the field (any time of the year) and tied her up to brush or start tacking up she would start quivering all over. I was really worried at first so I would rug and put in the stable then she'd pee immediately. After this happening a few times in a row I put 2 and 2 and she always had to have 5 minutes of 'alone' time when she came in to do her pee and sort herself out

The shelter has a straw bed in it and occasionally pees in it (although he usually does it out in the paddock)

I'm so glad i'm not the only one!! I've had him 8 yrs and this is the first time he's done this. Scared the pants off me!

This is the second big scare i've had off him this summer so we had a big chat this afternoon and he's promised to stop scaring me!
