Also has anyone registered a foal with BSPA?

I'm trying to find out whether they will register coloured foals with New Forest dams and a KWPN sire registered with Wetherbys, as with Wetherbys it will cost me £300+

I've emailed BSPA, but no response yet, i'll try and phone them tomorrow, but i was hoping whether someone could tell me if you have your horses parentage on the passport? Even if the parents aren't registered with BSPA?

Thanks x

Not sure about BSPA but I think CHAPS you can. As long as you have all the paper work to prove they are the parents.

No CHAPS won't unfortunately. Because the stallion isn't registered with them, on the foals' passports it would say 'unknown' on the breeding. How stupid eh?! But someone said that BSPA will put the parents on the passport.

I really don't want to go with Wetherbys. I'll have to register the mares, get them DNA tested, then register the foals and then have them DNA tested, argh! Why is nothing ever easy?! lol.

Ah I see. The stallion I've gone for is CHAPS registered and so is my mare so I guess thats why they will let me get a passport from them.
How stupid though.
Can you get a passport through a show society? Maybe New Forests if they are part bred, or Riding pony/Show hunter?

Thank you. I'm started to get nervous now. She had some clear mucus type liquid coming from her rear end today which worries me.

Thanks for that, it is stupid.

Oh im sure everything is fine. I know those nervous feelings very well, get used to them for the next 11 months

Everytime i look out at Bramble and Teazle i get all nervous, I'm so scared something bad is going to happen, sometimes i think why oh why did i get into this, but i should think when you see your foal outside with its mum its all worth it in the end (lets hope so)

Knowing Ringo, I'm willing to bet that the foals will make more than 14.2 in which case you can register them with the SHB and as long as you have all the breeding paperwork for your mares and the correct covering certificate for Ringo, then I'm sure they will be eligible for an Identity Document Passport which will carry a copy of their pedigree and breeding inside. You can check by ringing them on 01732 866877, they're very helpful. Have you tried the part bred section of the New Forest studbook or don't they have a partbred section? Failing that, try the Scottish Sorthorse Society; as long as you have breeding papers for sire and dam, they will issue verified parentage passports. If you google it, you can download the relevant forms which is easier (you can with SHB too).
In this day and age, I think it is bad form for horse (as opposed to pony) stallion owners not to register with the SHB or in the case of a coloured as he is, either CHAPS or BSPA, IMHO, as the majority of mares visiting a stallion like Ringo, aren't Weatherby registered themselves and it is a huge added expense on top of high stud fee/keep charges. There's a big difference in £25 and almost £150 to just be able to register your foal with a breeding verified passport. I know there is the argument of if you can't afford to register then you shouldn't be breeding but that really does seem to be adding salt into the wounds!
I've just registered this foal with SHB; she's out of a CHAPS registered mare and by a TB stallion and I had to send the registration form (sketch filled in by vet) a photocopy of mare's registration and the covering certificate, that's all and it cost £26.50 (£1.50 extra for registered return); the passport came back this week and it has her full breeding pedigree chart, name of breeder and registered owner on the first page (and it is laminated to discourage alterations!) - the stallion is dual registered with Weatherbys and SHB so it can be done! I'm not sure why the Ringo people don't get him done too; it would surely help their mare owners!
Remember, if you have a prefix, then it needs to be registered with whoever you register your foals with as they shouldn't accept more than one with the same prefix if it's not.

My youngster has a BSPA passport, with 'unverified parentage' on it - I bought an unregistered cob mare from a dealer who turned out to be in foal with no idea who the father was! Cocoa had a skewbald foal and I decided to register her with the BSPA for her passport and didn't have any problem.

I bought an unregistered coloured colt (4 year old) and applied for a BSPA passport. He was by a stallion who was not BSPA registered out of a TB wetherby's registered mare and because I had the covering certificate they gave him a verified parentage passport. I presume that you would need to provide details of the mares pedigree for them to issue verified parentage but I don't think the fact she was NF would matter. Could be wrong though.

Thanks everyone for that. I shall get in touch with BSPA on Monday.

I have the covering certificates so fingers crossed they will reg them with the breeding on the passport.

MFH_09 i definitely agree, Goshka really should reg with CHAPS or BSPA, it would help a lot as i know they are getting more and more mares which aren't WBs or reged with Wetherbys. It would be so much easier. Thanks again for all your advice i'll let you know how it goes.
