What type of boots, bandages do you use now they are back into work? My lad had hes scan yesterday and it showed the smallest amount of imflamation on hes tendon, vet said he shouldnt really even be lame but he is a big baby! Even though its small, i want to treat it like any other tendon injury so i want to be prepared when the riding starts, long walks along roads etc (god help me), is bandaging better? Or sports boots etc? Opinions please x

just wondering how long u gave ur horse of when he first did his injury as i work with racehorses so u can imajin i see quite allot of tendon injurys if its the surspensory tendon we normaly give 6 t 8 months of work and if its the digitol deep flexer tendon we give over 1 yr we use excersize banges for surpoart but if ther going to be on for a long time some people thing they heat up the tendons which is not good for the tendon fibers and can cause dammage

My horse was off ridden work for a year, but he was on the walker or hand walked from about 3 weeks then he was turned out for 6 months in a smallish paddock

IMO you can't support the internal stuctures of the leg by strapping a bit of fabric to the outside. You'll only heat them up and damage them further.

My mum's mare wears brushing boots in front when ridden, to stop her from sustaining any other injuries - for example, if she damaged her right leg and went lame on that, she would be putting more strain on her left leg (the one with the old tendon tear) and risking that one being damaged. There's nothing more I can do, really. I'd like to get her some boots with proper tendon strike protection and brushing protection, but I can't afford them so she'll just have to survive.

Get some good all-round protection boots and avoid heating the legs up.

I've used sports medicine boots. Premier equine I think. The comment about boots not supporting internal structures I think is right on the whole , but these boots are quite solid and they seem to disuade the horse from stretching his limb out.
