My 7yr old Czech WB just never spooks. :D

I've had him 18 months and taken him to shows etc

I've had the tall plastic jump wings blow down 2ft behind us 2 wks after I got him while riding in very windy outdoor, his reaction was an ear back to look at it :p low flying helicopters, tractors, leaves, crisp packets umbrellas etc etc etc he doesn't notice them. plastic bags come flying past no problem

Great for SJ as no filler is scary :D

After my last spooky horse this is such a novelty for me:D

He isn't perfect however he has twice got really really scared, once when we were in the indoor and the loudest fireworks any of us had ever heard went off right above us. He was shaking like a leaf for ages and did prance around if it wasn't for Pidgeon leading him from Pidge I don't know what we would have done. Never seen a horse or human so terrified!

Another time in the outdoor some stupid idiot was driving 4x4 with rattly trailer without lights and he did stop and look while shaking, again pidge to the rescue :)

Other than those 2 terrifying occasions he never even shy's at things.

He does however he can get excited or nervous, but doesn't do anything other than bounce and threaten to rear (which I've always avoided happening):D

So not perfect but I would be bored stiff if he was.

Me !! well the horse, never spooks, gets very excited and hard to handle. Has only twice tried to turn and run with me, but we got thorugh it, and 1 of those was a trotter speeding past on the road (which in my eyes is understandable) we have been together for 6 years.

Hmmmm, too soon for me to tell since i've only had him for a month but so far he has not spooked at any of the following.

Large blue tarpaulin being shaken like a bed sheet in the corner of the school just as we rode past. It was a stormy day, thunder, lightening the works.

Man coming through the trees at the side of the school ladder first.

Same man up the ladder fixing a light which he then dropped with a bang.

Cobra in his stable (no I am not making that up) he just stood, very, very still apparently and tried to blend into the wall (they are both white). Had he panicked, he may well have been bitten and that would have been that.

Bronking horse which then escaped and ran full pelt towards us. Casper did prick his ears as it approached to be fair.

I am sure that now I have written this I will have the biggest spook in the world to contend with this eve but all in all, I think he has got to go down as one of the sanest TB's I have ever met.

Now I do think Micah would have got excited and tried to follow the trotter :p

wow he is either an angel or as you say not found his feet yet. Again as micah gets excited I think he would have wanted to play with the other horse broncing past

He gets very excited and bouncy hacking with other horses, Due to my injury I have not yet cantered him in company with more than one horse, I would guess its going to be interesting as he just LOVES LIFE ! :D

I've a feeling that his calm demeanor is due to the fact that the poor sod never gets off the yard so he feels very safe there. Going out is not an option over here which is SUCH a shame.

I am going to do my level best to bring him home when we finally up sticks again, then we shall see how he copes since he'll have to travel to Delhi, fly to Malaysia and then on to UK where he will see a field full of grass for the first time in his life and all the other lovely scary things the UK has to offer.

Your lad sounds a saint. It's it lovely not having to cope with near heart attacks at the slightest thing isn't it.

oh bless him. I hope you manage to bring him with you. will cost a lot though!

Micah is pretty much a saint. Just so long as you keep him chilled and don't over excite him :D otherwise he just pings bless him
I've never had a horse that loves life like he does, its lovely :D

Mum's old Cleveland Bay mare!
Miss her so much!!!

Anything you can think of - never ever ever even moved a hooof! - She would just look, and sometimes tilt her head as if to say "WHAT is that!!!"

I geniunely think she though the whole spooking thing was wayyyy to much effort!!!

Mum was lucky to ride her for 10 years, no horse can ever even come close!

i wish lol!

mine spooks and spins 180 and fks off..... she will pull up but it isnt fun to sit too :D

however - she dosent mind things flapping round her face....crisps bags (she will ride over them/trot etc) anything that walks out of no-where........its over. lol.

We've had a few who 'almost never' spooked at anything - they've all been ride & drive.
Our 1st horse had pulled a landau in Blackpool before he came to us and totally ignored emergency vehicles/dustbin wagons/rubbish etc. He understood how road-works and traffic lights worked. His favourite game was to make young cattle run away from him by snorting over a wall at them. He didn't spook at water but he really didn't like to get his feet wet.
The only times he ever spooked were once when we passed a farmyard on a hack and there was an open horse-box outside the gate. He was absolutely determined he wasn't going into that - even though he'd travelled from Yorkshire to Blackpool at least one return journey every year for about the last seven years.
The other spook was as we passed a woollen mill (over 30 yrs ago) and a jet of steam came out of the wall, just at fetlock height - he shot across the road with absolutely no warning.
We also had a Clyde mare who was frightened of nothing except cattle, she once almost walked over a Metro car because there was a bull in a field next to the road.
Then there's the cob who is still with us, although retired, frightened of no traffic at all and completely trustworthy. But she refused to go past the garden bench which had appeared at the side of the path.
The mare which we have now had just over 3 months appears to be frightened of almost nothing but nearly had a heart attack when I went into the yard just after washing my hair with a towel on my head - she spun round in the box three times with her eyes on stalks.

Police horse at work called Hadrian he is 200% bombproof fireworks, new years eve in central london he just strolls around on a long rein seeing if anyone has anything to eat!!!!!:D he has not spooked at anything since joining us:) we need a stable full of him

My mare is extremely unspooky, and she's only four. Gives all the older schoolmaster types a lead past tractors, flappy plastic, the peacock, etc.

She's a superstar.

Fany has never spooked. She just doesn't bother about anything. Strimmers, chainsaw, angle grinder all started up near her and she didn't move a hoof. We've never found anything that frightens her. But never say never, any horse can have a spook.
FDC

Maybe its a trait for Czech warmbloods. My horse (aged 14 at the time) went out a few times as a nanny to a 4 year old Czech warmblood and did his best to teach him to spook at the various dragons and demons you meet on the average hack. Much to his disgust the youngster took no notice of any of it!

My haffie never spooked - looked at a few things but that was it.

We even had a train go over a bridge one of the first times I rode him out, not a problem. Nor was the nail gun and the chainsaw with chunks of wood flying off (@rsehole saw us coming and started them up as we went past - really, really peed him off when we just strolled off :D) All traffic was fine including emergency vehicles with blues and twos, buses, HGVs etc. What he didn't like was the shetland pony that used to stick her head through the bottom rung of a fence  she always made him snort. But the emus, peacocks and llamas next door were fine.

He was a ride and drive who understood the highway code - wouldn't move at a junction if there was a car coming (even if I could see that it was indicating into an earlier side turning ) or until the lights were green at traffic lights. He also didn't trust me if I asked him to move to the white line to turn right, not until he'd had a look to check that nothing was trying to overtake.

My previous horse was a loopy Welsh who used to have meltdowns for no apparent reason and the haffie was such a star by comparison.

Fantastic pony who was in much demand for traffic training youngsters/nervous horses :)

But - in his world there were two ways of doing things, his way or the wrong way and he wasn't doing it the wrong way!! If you decided you were going to have a battle with him you needed to apply superglue to your behind as he could buck, oh and bring your lunch because he was stubborn :D

He's retired now after a tendon injury and tbh, there is no other horse I want to ride. I can't afford another of my one but I have been offered rides on other peoples but I can't work up the enthusiasm to go for it.

My Clydesdale. He's an absolute gem, never, ever spooks at anything. I started riding him as a just backed 6yr old and was given him about a year later and have never known him to spook. Goes anywhere, takes everything in his stride and is truly anyone's ride. He's just a pleasure to own.

Pidge does spook especially if he is feeling fresh! But always feel safe :D
Aw honey what you gonna do now you've lost your babysitter :(

yeah but pidge play spooks :D

I don't know what we will do now, especially as I am going to have to be extra extra careful again!:(

Hello all,

this is my first post so be gentle :D

When i was younger (about 14) I loaned a very beautiful pony, though some would say he was ugly because he never grew into his head. Ill never forget one day, we were riding out and came across one of the day-glo orange ride along lawn mowers the council has. He never batted an eye. However, when we got to the end of the road there is a boulder which he spooked at. Not in the 'arg!!!!' kind of way but in so much that he walked around it sideways without taking his eyes off it! I thought it was so odd I dismounted and had a look but there was nothing there at all, and when i got back on he carried on as if nothing had happened... after that he would always walk around the rock sideways keeping fixed on it lol

I know I feel sorry for you as there isn't really anything to touch Pidge for babysitting duties there is there :( Will your sis escort you on foot perhaps?

No there isn't anywhere never mind here :D

The trouble is he is not generally spooky so someone could walk with me 100 times and not a thing would happen (unlike Beacon )

I was just lucky that the twice we need pidge he was there, either that or someone much higher up was watching out for me :D

So long as while I am getting back into it I stick to day light when I am on my own I think he will be fine (fingers crossed)

Hopefully those new stirrups I am thinking of getting will help too :D
