Iv got a rainsheet on mine, purely because I want her dry because Iv got the day off tomorrow and Ill whip out for a ride in between the showers aka downpours
No.
3 year old living out.
She WILL have a rug on from next week though. She's going showing on the 8th and will be having a bath. She'll be rugged until either her coat builds up enough grease to go naked again, or if the weather is really crap she will be rugged from next week over the winter (no more than 200g on the coldest, wettest days). I'm hoping though that we get a mild autumn, as then she can revert to living out naked before winter arrives.
Definitely not! Although mine is a native albeit elderly, she has starting growing her winter coat already so I don't think she'll mind, especially as she can stand in if she wants to.
Just got home & the car was reading 18 degrees outside 15 mins ago - I'm still in a t shirt (car is pretty accurate too).
Local forecast is around 12 degrees tonight at lowest point & dry till middayish tomorrow
However, I appreciate that some parts of the UK differ in temps to other parts
I started putting rugs on our beasties on sunday It was cold enough for me to need multiple layers first thing, and one old mare was shivvering, others looked miserable. It did warm up later in the day but temps dropped again sunday night and monday. The rest of the week is set to be rubbish too.
I'm pretty tough love when it comes to rugging but I wont watch horses shiver and not rug them just because its august.
I have a rainsheet on the pony, spirit has a big think coat, alreay, so no rugs on him,, depends on the horse, but nothing heavy at all at this time of year, even though it's a bit chilly, if you put anything more than a rainsheet on at this time of year, you'll have 6 rugs on when it's cold otherwise!!!
^^^LIKE !
Mine is a native, living in a 100 acre field that's surrounded by mature woodland and hedging. No man made shelter at all. She will only be rugged from next week because she is having a bath before her show on 8th September. Otherwise, she would stay naked unless we get the same icy winds and driving rain we had last year - late autumn/early winter.
It's 14 degrees here right now and dry with a light breeze. 13 degrees and rain forecast for tomorrow then warming up again to 18 degrees by Monday. I'm in SE Scotland.
Mine has been in a lw since Saturday. Has been cool at night and been very heavy downpours. Can only ride when his back dry or he freaks out. He is a tb with thin coat, we are just on edge of peaks too so quite a wind. He hasn't been hot at all in fact last night he was cold before it rained but refused to put anything thicker on!
God no, although saying that mine's in tonight keeping my sister's on box rest horse company. It is going to be dry here with lows of 15 so no need for any rugs. I would put a sheet on him though if was raining but that's only because I just fully clipped him last week as he gets too hot!! (he starts to get a bit of a thicker coat by end of July/beg Aug so i usually have to clip him as he gets far too hot in work).
Yes just one the TB he's been in the wars and had standing surgery at horsepital two weeks ago he's lost wieght and has been looking a bit down ( not surprising in the circumstances ) I put it on on Friday as I thought there was chill in the air he's looking perkier now he's in a thin medium wieght.
No its august! For a few more days at least! Completely depends on your fields though as they probably would at their old yard as it was completey exposed - new yard has high thick hedges on every side with lots of big trees to get under - lovely!
