My boy gets filled legs when standing in that go with exercise or turnout. Anything I can add to his feed to help prevent this problem that anyone knows of please?

Thanks.

My mare is prone to puffy legs too following a horrendous bout of lymphangitus two winters ago. That's when I discovered EquiNatural and they;ve been my lifesaver ever since. www.equinatural.co.uk then go to Lymphatics on hte menu, I now use their LymphTone on a maintenance basis for Cherry, and they use organic herbs too.

If our gelding has anything with Alfafa in his legs tend to fill when in. We cut it out of his diet and they improved a lot.

Possibly less hard feed, more work and/or bandage legs.

My girls legs filled over winter when stuck in due to snow so i bandaged her hinds which did the trick ( obviously rebandaged everyday so she did have time without them on )

Any chance you can increase the amount of Turnout he has? This would go a long way to letting his own circulcation/lymphatic system do it's job!

I understand alot of us don't have that luxury, especially at this time of year and with the colossal amount of wet stuff that's fallen from the sky, but it may be worth asking about if you're on a yard!

Just a thought.

Clivers are sticky weeds. We've just missed their season in the UK, but you can buy them dried.

This is a good site for inspiration

and a good book for herb fans

I buy all my herbs and spices from here

It's recommended to withhold herbs one day a week.

Otherwise for your boy - could too much protein be causing a problem?

Is he on alfalfa?

Thanks so much for the links, they're very helpful! He is on an alfalfa based chop though he doesn't have much, but I will change it to a plain chop and see if that helps!

I can't use alfalfa because our forage is too high in calcium and it doesn't suit us.

If you ask your local vendor, they can usually source you some old fashioned unmolassed hay chaff. £6 for a massive sack.

My old boy absolutely loves it.
