Anywhere else been hit by the crazy hailstorm??!

The weather is absolutely crazy this year so far.. It's very warm where I am but I live on top of a hill and by teatime I can't see further than the road or my field gate at the end of the back garden.. And the land is waterlogged and I can't cut my hay..

What's next?!

I was out in it!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They were indeed rocks and they hurt.
We had just gone across the fields to do a photo shoot of Bea and Sparks at the stud (near Stafford) and from nowhere, the heavens just opened with these golf balls; it was manic and lasted for what seems ages but was probably about 15 minutes. The rain was torrential as well, it was running down inside my knickers! Needless to say we aborted the mission and will try again another day.
This was as it started and yes, the white dots are hailstones! The horses weren't too bothered after the initial shock of being pelted with ice TBH, foals tucked themselves in beside the mares and mares carried on grazing while we couldn't even see there was so much water running down everywhere.

Jeez they are huge! We just had awful thunder and lightning here in Cumbria/ Thankfully the horses survived but are a tad wet :P The dog wasn't even bothered and fell asleep on my bed which is very unlike him! Hope everyone else is okay :)

:eek::eek: its like the begining to that film The Day After Tomorrow

its thundering with us now, and has been raining since about 12, thankfully we got back from our hack just before the rain hit but it doesnt look like its to get any better :/

Our office in Hinckley was hit.

Parked cars with smashed windows and dented bodywork :(

Home is Nottingham and D says heavy flash flooding, but not hailstoning.

my girly's only just up the road in Blaby - we didn't get the hailstones here in Croft but it was VERY dark over blaby way. :( hope the ponio's ok. She'd get all chicken licken on me and think the sky was falling.

THE END IS NIGH!

Was humid here, but heavens have opened, hope the hail isn't on it's way. The horses are all out and in a field with no proper shelter, although they do have trees.

Just had a short sharp heavy rainstorm but nothing like what the OP has had!

However, I confidently predict we'll get a huge storm about 6.30ish - that will have given us enough time to get the horses in, tacked up and set off on the 'celebrate the summer' hack we'd planned for last week....and got rained off #irony.

I can second this, its my sister's birthday so planning to set out on a 3 hour hack this evening if it dries up! thank goodness we didn't set off this morning!

OMG!!!! thats huge!!!!! We had a thundrestorm, i think local morrisions centre roof set on fire. It was very very dark and couldn't see anything out the window. We had some hailstones but not as big, luckily, we have a greenhouse and i've just been out to inspect the damage and there is non so at least this. Garden flooded and so is the garage, house is on a slightly bigger hill than garage and garden so the water hasn't got in here yet. Stopped raining now and is lovely and sunny so fingers x'd it'll stay this way. :)

Yes on the A5 Nr Hinckley 11 reg L200 now has dents all over roof bonnet wing tops and I managed to get under a garage forecourt canopy during the worst of the storm it looks like someone has given the truck agoing over with a ball pein hammer could be an interesting one with the insurance Co. And in Burbage the house roofs are damaged.

Listening to people's descriptions and seeing those hailstones, I would definitely say this was tornado activity. Better get used to it folks, global warming doesn't mean we are all going to be able to grow grapes and bask in a Mediterranean climate - it means more energy going into the atmosphere and that means greater activity in the form of severe storms, gales, heavier rain.

I am very much for real this is in Leicestershire area! Apparently a tornado came over and brought these with them. It must have been very localised but it was certainly phenomenal to see. I think there was tornados and floods around the area as nearby shows have been cancelled but the hail came down worst right where I was

Me and two riding companions were sheltering under a railway bridge from the rain when the thunder and lightening started up again. The horses were coping ok until the hail started. Then Lady (large hanovarian) spooked and set the other two off. All this whilst the intercity went thundering overhead, the thunder thundered and the lightening flashed!,, They settled after some very hairy moments so we eventually continued thinking it had settled .. Were we wrong! We got back one hour later absolutely drenched. Really pleased with my friends little cob though. What a trooper.

I'm originally from Sydney, Australia and hail the size of cricket balls is not uncommon.....but I have never come across huge hail over here.

Blimey, they are massive, hope everyone and horses are ok.

I'm way down south and it's hot, sunny and very humid, so wouldn't be surprised if it builds up to a storm
