Apparently Noel Fehily isn't riding Kauto on Sunday (Anyone know why not? ) Paul Nicholls has asked AP but has not as yet received a response from him. And is it going to be on cos of the weather anyway...last I heard the track was raceable under the covers but they were covered in snow...it's fast becoming like a movie script :o

I know a lot of people don't think AP and Kauto are suited but in theory AP should be able to get a tune out of anything. He is currently down to ride Albertas Run though so I guess he has to discuss it with his connections. I could see them going with Sam Thomas, I wouldn't mind seeing Barry Gerraty on him.

AP should stay on Alberta's Run though -it's his ride, he'll be on it in the future, and if the integrity he's been talking about this last week exists, he should stay loyal to the horse and connections. If he was without a ride fair enough, but he's not.

I'll be disappointed in him if he does accept the ride.

I have a feeling that Jonjo and Trevor Hemmings will have told Tony to take the Kauto ride - I might be wrong, but I don't think he'll have just phoned them up and said 'Sorry chaps, decided to go for the Champion afterall!' I'm sure they'll have discussed it and the owner will have given the ok for him to have such a high profile ride.

I'm disappointed he's taken the ride. I think it's lacking in loyalty, it's not as if it's a future partnership he's getting, and he is breaking his successful partnership with Alberta's.
I completely see how he would want to, obviously, maybe I'm just being old-fashioned......

Quite ;)

No, you're not. I'm sure Tony had a big issue with this before (was it with Paul Nicholls? I forget). However, I still think the first people he'll have consulted when Paul approached him will have been Jonjo and the owner, Hemmings. And I'm sure they'll have told him to take the ride - we'll hear the full story tomorrow.

He didn't answer straight away but about 3 hours later so one would have to assume that he was consulting with Alberta's Run's connections which would be the right thing to do. He is retained by J.P.McManus not Jonjo and while he normally rides AR, there have been occasions in the past where he has got off him for a more fancied horse so it is nothing new. His business is winning races so he wants to be on the horse with the best chance that is available to him and there are times that J.P. McManus lets him off to ride a more fancied horse of someone else's so it is not a lack of loyalty - he has huge respect for them.

He loves a party does Paul..... and the weighing room rozzers know it!

He's taken the pledge tho' (again!) and all Irish racing was abandoned for Boxing Day this afternoon........

ETA - I didn't know AP'd got off Alberta's before for a one off? Ah well - my memory must be fading - I'm deffo getting old!

I have to say i dont think AP is being disloyal in anyway he rides some low grade horses at times as he loves the job, it will have been well discussed with all involved and i am sure they told him to take the ride on Kauto.

Even if i had a good horse he was supposed to be riding if he was offered that ride i would tell him to take it i wouldnt expect anyone to turn down that offer.

As a jockey who is dedicated has done wonders for the sport and someone who is more interested in the riding than the spin i think it is unfair to make comments on his situation as Ruby said on spoty the man is made of concrete, and i think deserves some respect however if you have matched his achievements dedication and desire to be involved in racing despite injury then comment away.

WTF has ''if you have matched his achievements dedication and desire to be involved in racing despite injury then comment away.'' got to do with wondering about whether his loyalty to a horse he's already committed to will hold? Seriously?

I think trinityfox might have taken your post as a criticism of AP and we all know we can't criticise the pros at the moment ;)

Ah, thank you. Kind of a post stopper tho' - as if you're not qualified to comment on him unless you've achieved what he's done, then that also applies to those who comment in any way, either positively or negatively (although I wasn't being negative, just a bit sad), And then he'd never have won SPOTY..... :D

Didnt really take it like that at all criticise pros all you want i dont mind but really AP isnt a glory hunter, it is only sensible and all involved would have advised him to take the ride.

My dad point to points rides his own and familys if he got the offer on a really good horse instead of one of mine he was doing well on and he took it, would i think he was being disloyal no, and hes family, only joking.

What i was trying to say is he would be stupid to turn this down all involved will have said the same you have to grab these chances especially if you are a NH jockey i mean the chances of getting there against horse or rider injury the going fitness etc etc i mean who wouldnt take the ride.

My family race and and they would never expect anyone to turn down something so much better even if meant to be riding for them alas not at the same level as all this.

I just dont see how you think he is being disloyal all the owners and trainers he rides for would all encourage him to take this ride on Kauto and i am sure most people even some in the same race as him would love to see Kauto and AP win and its nothing to do with him being a pro rider its about a great horse and jockey maybe being able to do the amazing togethor and being realistic about the situation it is a history making once in a lifetime oppurtunity why not just wish them both well and hope they do something that has never been done before and will go down in the history books and get behind them both.

I would love this to happen more for the horse than anything and i am not a pro rider groupie or anything but jockeys do go through alot thier choice i know but i do think AP is dedicated to the sport even if you dont like him, but wont it just be great if the race goes ahead and they win and if you love racing i am sure that would make you smile at least.:)

You contradict yourself in last post. Whilst I wouldn't use the term 'glory hunter' as I consider it belittling, I would say he wants to go down in history, and he rightly should for his achievements. He's raised the bar for jockeys in his career. He is an incredible jockey.

However, he's not just getting off his daughter's ordinary pointer, he's getting off a top class horse that has won for him at Cheltenham and Aintree. I just checked his form, and he hasn't 'got off' him before - the last two times he was in the same race but not on him was when he rode Exotic Dancer for Jonjo, who he was committed to ride.

And please point out where I said I didn't like AP, didn't want the race to go ahead, or didn't want Kauto to win?

As I said before, I understand why, I'm just disappointed.

I am just so excitied about going, I must tell you I will not be happy if the race is not on, I must go to Belgium the next day so i will miss it if they postpone it.
