Sorry, I know that this has probably been done to death before, but I am asking on behalf of one of our little liveries.

She is entering her beautiful little palomino pony in the local WHP comp at the end of May, and I've been trying to advise her on wear.

I've suggested beige jods, joddy boots, joddy clips, black jacket (she doesn't have a hacking jacket), gloves, buttonhole, hairnet, black hat.

For the pony, white saddle shaped numnah, and basic tack (ie. no breast plates etc.).

Is all of the above OK, and also following questions:

Plaiting - is a running plait ok on the mane, or should she be au naturel?
Tail plaited?
What boots on pony - are eskadron OK, or is it no boots?

Thanks in advance

Not sure if you remember but Zara had a pally which she did a lot of shp and whp with - Bright Spark? We always plaited him for wh classes as it seemed a bit of a grey area, the consesus was that he should be unplaited for palomino classes (not that we did any!) Would suggest tweed jacket if one can be borrowed for the day, no bottonhole and shirt + tie (PC member?), depending on the saddle I'd go for a same coloured numnah and plain snaffle bride and a martingale is allowed if needed - does the pony need boots? If essential thay can be used for the jumping and taken off immediately afterwards.

Presume FRC show??

Yes I remember. We'll have to see if we can borrow a tweed jacket, and forget the buttonhole idea. She'll have a white shirt and pc tie on - is she supposed to wear her pc badge?

We will have to do some serious mane pulling to be able to plait her up, which is why we wanted to go for the running plait - easier with a long mane.

Yes you are right - it is FRC at Denne Hill - 28th May. You going?

I know how hard it is to get the 'right gear' together - but as I love to see a really smart pally it is worth the effort as they really catch the judges eye! I used t remove the badges (unless it was a PC show), just looks tidier. If you have a lot of mane perhaps do more plaits, not totally correct but a fair compromise.
I am planning to go - was originally lined up to judge but now I'm relieved of that I can go and play may do WH on the black twit (if I can have a G&T first!)! Also suggest gloves for the rider just to complete the picture.

Mare should be plaited if not M & M, jacket should really be tweed and hat navy if poss., if kiddy is little she shouldn't wear a hairnet - hair should be neatly plaited/pony tailed.

For pony if it needs a numnah then it should be brown (assuming saddle is brown) and fit very tidily under saddle so that not a lot shows.

Boots can be worn but I would only boot pony if it needs to be booted - personally I don't like to see boots on a WHP - ours does affiliated without.

Hope she has fun!

Canary jods would be better but beige ar ok, brown joddy boots, jacket should realy be twees, gloves should idealy be brown leather but dark coloured and not fluffy will do, No button hole. if kiddy is over 11ish then hair in a bun and hairnet, if not then a plait with a ribbon. Preferably Navy hat with leather harness.

If she can get away without the numnah then that would be best but if she has to have one then one the same colour and shape as the saddle is better and the less of it showing the better. Plain browband and smart flat noseband, In Whp it is not unusual to see running martingales if she needs something to grab.

Plaiting Idealy normal plaits unless the pony is an M&M (and yes you can get normal plaits out of a long mane if it is quite thin).
Tail should idealy be pulled but if you cant face that then shape it lightly with pulling then gell it and put a tail bangage on it, this gives an almost pulled look)

Boots on pony if absolutely nessecary and shouldnt be any other colour except brown or black (no purple ones) they should then be removed before the individual show

It's the riding club's show at Folkestone, bank holiday Monday. I've got the schedule in front of me.

Has showjumping, dressage and showing classes.

I've done the showjumping for the last three years, and fallen off and injured myself the last two years. May not go this year as third time I may really hurt myself. I think it's the weaving between the cross country fence to get to some of the jumps that put Murph off.

Nice show though.
